Our client, Martu Waru Pty Ltd, is a proudly Indigenous-led Western Australian company providing building, construction, maintenance, civil, fabrication and electrical services across metropolitan, regional and remote Western Australia.
Due to continued growth, our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Wall and Floor Tiler to join their team in Port Hedland, Western Australia.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing surfaces and installing wall and floor tiles across residential, commercial, government, mining and maintenance projects in the Pilbara and regional Western Australia. The role requires a high level of precision, attention to detail and commitment to delivering quality finishes in accordance with project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
• Review building plans, drawings and specifications to determine tiling requirements, measurements, layouts and required materials.
• Measure and assess wall and floor surfaces and establish appropriate tile layouts before commencing work.
• Prepare surfaces by removing existing tiles, grout, adhesive and other materials and ensuring surfaces are clean, level and suitable for tiling.
• Repair and prepare substrates by filling cracks, holes and uneven areas as required.
• Prepare and apply suitable adhesives to walls, floors and tiles before positioning tiles accurately.
• Cut, shape and trim tiles using appropriate manual and powered tile-cutting tools to achieve accurate finishes around corners, edges, fixtures and pipework.
• Position and align tiles to achieve consistent spacing, levels, patterns and overall appearance.
• Install tiles to walls, floors, splashbacks, wet areas and other surfaces in accordance with project requirements.
• Apply grout between tiles and remove excess grout to achieve a clean and professional finish.
• Apply waterproofing membranes and systems to wet areas in accordance with manufacturer specifications and relevant requirements.
• Inspect completed tiling work to ensure surfaces are level, tiles are securely fixed and finishes meet required standards.
• Carry out repairs, replacements and maintenance to existing tiled surfaces where required.
• Safely handle tiles, adhesives, waterproofing products, tools and equipment.
• Work collaboratively with supervisors, tradespeople, clients and other project personnel.
• Complete required job documentation and maintain accurate work records.
• Ensure all work is undertaken safely, efficiently and in accordance with relevant standards, specifications and workplace procedures.
Essential Requirements
• Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling (CPC31320) or equivalent relevant trade qualification.
• At least three years of relevant wall and floor tiling experience.
• Current Construction White Card.
• Current Australian Driver's Licence, with Manual preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in wall and floor tiling, surface preparation, tile cutting, grouting and waterproofing.
• Ability to interpret building plans, drawings and specifications.
• Ability to accurately measure, set out and complete tiling work to required tolerances.
• Ability to safely operate tile-cutting tools, power tools and other relevant equipment.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screening.
• National Police Clearance or willingness to obtain one.
• Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
• Working at Heights certification.
• Confined Space certification.
• Elevated Work Platform (EWP) Licence.
• First Aid Certificate.
• Experience with waterproofing and wet-area applications.
• Experience working with ceramic, porcelain, stone and other tile products.
• Previous experience working on mining, government, commercial or remote construction projects.
This position is open to Australian citizens, permanent residents and candidates who are currently onshore in Australia with valid work rights.
