Our client, Martu Waru Pty Ltd, is a proudly Indigenous-led Western Australian company providing building, construction, maintenance, civil, fabrication and electrical services across metropolitan, regional and remote Western Australia.
Due to continued growth, our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Metal Fabricator to join their team in Port Hedland, Western Australia.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, repairing and finishing a range of metal structures and components for construction, maintenance and other projects across the Pilbara and regional Western Australia. The role requires strong attention to detail, quality workmanship and a commitment to safe and efficient fabrication practices.
Key Responsibilities
• Review engineering drawings, plans and specifications to establish fabrication requirements, dimensions, materials and work procedures.
• Select, inspect, prepare and safely handle appropriate metal materials for fabrication work.
• Measure, mark and cut metal sections, plates, pipes and other components using hand tools, cutting equipment and metalworking machinery.
• Shape, bend and form metal components using suitable hand and machine tools, including heating and hammering techniques where required.
• Accurately position, align and secure components using measuring instruments, clamps, jigs and appropriate hand tools.
• Fabricate and assemble metal components and structures using welding, bolting, riveting and other suitable joining methods.
• Perform welding using appropriate welding techniques and equipment in accordance with project specifications.
• Inspect completed welds and fabricated components for accuracy, strength, penetration, alignment and overall quality.
• Grind, file, chisel, clean and smooth welds and metal surfaces to achieve the required finish.
• Complete finishing processes such as polishing, filing, cleaning and surface treatment where required.
• Carry out fabrication, repair and maintenance work on existing metal structures, equipment and components.
• Measure and inspect completed work to ensure dimensions, tolerances and finishes meet drawings and project requirements.
• Safely operate and maintain welding, cutting, grinding and metal fabrication tools, machinery and equipment.
• Work collaboratively with supervisors, tradespeople, clients and other project personnel.
• Complete required job documentation and maintain accurate work records.
• Ensure all work is undertaken safely, efficiently and in accordance with relevant standards, specifications and workplace procedures.
Essential Requirements
• Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (MEM31922) or equivalent relevant trade qualification.
• At least three years of relevant metal fabrication experience.
• Current Construction White Card.
• Current Australian Driver's Licence, with Manual preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in metal fabrication, welding, cutting, shaping and assembly.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, plans and specifications.
• Ability to safely operate welding, cutting, grinding and metal fabrication equipment.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screening.
• National Police Clearance or willingness to obtain one.
• Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
• Working at Heights certification.
• Confined Space certification.
• Elevated Work Platform (EWP) Licence.
• First Aid Certificate.
• HR Driver's Licence.
• Relevant welding qualifications or tickets.
• Previous experience working on mining, government, commercial or remote construction projects.
• Experience with structural steel, pipework, maintenance fabrication or heavy fabrication.
This position is open to Australian citizens, permanent residents and candidates who are currently onshore in Australia with valid work rights.
