Horizon International College is a registered training organisation delivering vocational education to domestic and international students. We are seeking a Systems Support Officer to keep campus technology reliable for teaching, student administration and day-to-day operations across our sites.
The role sits within a busy education environment. Staff, trainers and students rely on classroom computers, student management systems, learning platforms, printers, networks and related equipment. The successful candidate will provide hands-on technical support, help users work confidently with college systems, and keep infrastructure stable as the college operates across more than one campus.
About the role
The Systems Support Officer will be the first point of contact for technical issues affecting staff and students. The work covers identifying what hardware and software is needed to resolve faults, responding to requests about computers, applications and network access, installing and updating programs used for teaching and administration, and making sure equipment is used properly and kept in working order.
The position also involves supporting the college network across campuses, assisting with website and portal upkeep where required, replacing or repairing printers, terminals and other peripherals, and providing practical guidance so staff and students can use systems without unnecessary disruption. Occasional travel between campuses will be required when on-site support is needed.
Key duties
• Assess hardware and software needs and recommend practical solutions when systems fail or no longer meet teaching and administrative requirements
• Respond to staff and student enquiries about computers, applications, logins, printers and classroom technology
• Adjust existing applications and settings so they work for trainers, administration staff and students
• Install, update and configure software used for student management, learning delivery, email and office work
• Promote reliable and efficient use of college computers, networks and classroom equipment
• Assist with setup, monitoring and upkeep of campus networks and connected devices
• Support the college website, student portals and related online tools so information remains accessible
• Diagnose, repair or replace printers, terminals, peripherals and other end-user equipment
• Provide on-the-spot and remote assistance consistent with a busy education helpdesk environment
• Travel to other campuses when required to resolve faults or support new equipment rollouts
Essential requirements
• Bachelor of Information Technology or a closely related field
• A minimum of one (1) year of relevant systems support experience (preference will be given to applicants with additional relevant experience)
• Demonstrated experience supporting users with hardware, software and network issues
• Ability to install and maintain applications and keep equipment running in a multi-user workplace
• Clear communication skills and the ability to explain technical matters to non-technical staff and students
• Willingness to work full-time hours and travel between campuses as required
