My Australian Career One of Australia's leading suppliers of sheet metal steel fabrications, is seeking an experienced Metal Fabricator/ Fitter to join its team on a full-time basis Position Overview: The Fitter will fit, assemble and weld metal parts and subassemblies, and will assemble, install, maintain and repair mechanical equipment and steel structures, working from engineering drawings and specifications to ensure precision fit, function, weld quality and compliance with quality and safety standards.

The Metal Fabricator will cut, shape, weld and assemble sheet metal and steel components to specification, ensuring products meet quality, safety and delivery standards while supporting the company's growing range of steel fabrication and scaffold plank manufacturing work. Task & responsibilities FITTER Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and job sheets to determine suitable material, method and sequence of operations Measure, mark out, cut, grind and shape metal components to fine tolerances using hand tools, power tools and specialised machinery Join metal sections using various welding techniques (MIG, TIG and/or arc welding) to required standards Assemble, align and fit mechanical parts, frames and steel structures, ensuring correct clearances and finishes Install, adjust, maintain and repair machinery, equipment and structural steelwork Use precision measuring instruments to check dimensional accuracy and weld quality of finished components Diagnose faults in mechanical equipment and carry out repairs or adjustments as required Coordinate with fabricators and production staff on fitting, assembly and welding tasks Maintain tools, machinery and the work area in a safe and orderly condition Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety regulations at all times METAL FABRICATOR Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and job sheets to determine materials, dimensions and fabrication methods Mark out, cut, drill, punch, bend and shape metal plate, sheet and sections using hand tools, power tools and fabrication machinery Weld and assemble fabricated components using MIG, TIG and/or arc welding processes to required standards Operate guillotines, press brakes, rollers and other sheet metal fabrication equipment safely and accurately Inspect finished fabrications for dimensional accuracy, weld quality and surface finish Select appropriate materials, fixtures and jigs for each fabrication task Maintain tools, machinery and work area in a safe and orderly condition Work collaboratively with fitters, boilermakers and production staff to meet project deadlines Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety regulations at all times Qualification & experience FITTER Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade and Fitting (MEM30219), with demonstrated welding competency across MIG, TIG and/or arc processes (or equivalent trade qualification) Proven experience as a Fitter-Welder in a steel fabrication, manufacturing or engineering environment Sound knowledge of fitting, assembly, machining and welding techniques Ability to read and work from technical drawings and specifications Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced workshop Good communication and time management skills Current forklift or crane licence advantageous but not essential METAL FABRICATOR Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (or equivalent trade qualification) Proven experience as a Metal Fabricator in a steel or sheet metal fabrication environment Sound knowledge of fabrication techniques, materials and welding processes Ability to read and work from technical drawings and specifications Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced workshop Good communication and time management skills Current forklift or crane licence advantageous but not essential About Company About Company: If you possess the qualifications and passion to excel as a Fitter/ Metal Fabricator, we invite you to apply by submitting your resume and cover letter.
