APS6/EL1 Finance Officer

Randstad is currently seeking several experienced Finance Officer APS6/EL1 to join a high-performing federal government team.

Position Description

Provide financial management, strategic business partnering, and core accounting services across operational divisions within an Australian Public Service (APS) framework.

Execute general ledger postings, perform complex reconciliations, manage month-end/year-end closures, and maintain master data integrity in SAP (FI/CO, FM).

Lead internal and external budget formulation, construct financial forecasts, perform variance analysis, and monitor capital (CapEx) and operational (OpEx) expenditure.

Deliver financial advisory services to branch heads and program managers, translating SAP data into strategic advice for resource allocation, procurement, and risk management.

Extract, analyze, and build custom financial reports from SAP to deliver insights, dashboards, and financial status briefings to executive decision-makers.

Maintain robust internal financial controls in alignment with the PGPA Act 2013 , drive process improvements within SAP workflows, and manage internal and ANAO audit requirements.

Key Capabilities

Advanced hands-on technical skill in SAP (FI/CO and FM modules) to perform general ledger reconciliations, execute complex postings, extract custom financial reports, and maintain master data.

Direct experience applying public sector financial regulations, specifically the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act), Commonwealth Procurement Rules, and relevant AASB accounting standards.

Ability to build budget models, evaluate cost drivers, perform root-cause variance analysis, and forecast end-of-year financial outcomes for executive decision-makers.

Strong written and verbal communication skills to simplify technical accounting concepts for non-finance managers and build collaborative cross-functional relationships.

Analytical problem-solving capability to resolve general ledger anomalies, streamline SAP reporting workflows, and ensure complete audit readiness for internal and ANAO reviews.
