An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced APS6-level Policy Officer to support a significant regulatory reform project focused on energy efficiency and market transformation.

Working within a specialist policy team, you will contribute to the development of policy proposals, legislative reform initiatives and regulatory options that support the expansion of national energy efficiency frameworks into new commercial and industrial sectors.

Key responsibilities include:

Undertaking policy research, analysis and evidence gathering.

Developing policy papers, briefings, submissions and recommendations for senior executives and ministers.

Supporting legislative and regulatory reform activities.

Engaging with industry stakeholders, manufacturers, technical experts, industry associations and government representatives.

Assessing regulatory and non-regulatory approaches to improve energy performance outcomes.

Translating complex technical information into practical and well-structured policy advice.

Contributing to project delivery within a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

This is a long-term, 12-month contract opportunity supporting a high-priority reform project.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:

Demonstrated experience in policy development, regulatory reform or legislative development.

Experience working within the APS or a comparable government environment.

Knowledge of industrial or commercial energy sectors, energy efficiency programs, energy-using products or related technologies.

Qualifications in public policy, engineering, environmental science, economics or a related field will be highly regarded.

Strong stakeholder engagement, consultation and relationship management skills.

Excellent written communication skills with experience preparing policy papers, briefings and executive-level correspondence.

The ability to analyse complex issues and provide evidence-based policy recommendations.

Strong organisational skills, initiative and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Candidates with direct experience in industrial energy, commercial energy systems, regulatory environments, sustainability programs or energy efficiency initiatives are strongly encouraged to apply.
