Lead Payroll Operations for a Respected Canberra Employer

Are you an experienced Payroll Manager seeking your next leadership opportunity? This is a rare chance to join a well-established Canberra organisation where payroll is recognised as a critical business function and where your expertise will directly contribute to employee experience, compliance and operational excellence.

You will lead a small payroll team and oversee the delivery of accurate, compliant and timely payroll services across a diverse workforce. This is an opportunity for a hands-on payroll professional who enjoys leading people, improving processes and partnering with stakeholders across the organisation.

Your new role

In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of payroll operations, ensuring pay cycles are delivered accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with legislative and organisational requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

Leading and mentoring a team of Payroll Officers.

Overseeing payroll processing and payroll-related reconciliations.

Managing payroll tax, superannuation and statutory obligations.

Interpreting employment agreements and relevant industrial instruments.

Resolving complex payroll enquiries and escalations.

Managing payroll compliance and governance requirements.

Developing strong relationships across finance, people and culture, and operational teams.

Driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance payroll processes and employee experience.

About You

To be successful, you will bring:

Demonstrated experience in a Payroll Manager or Senior Payroll leadership position.

Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance requirements.

Experience managing payroll teams within a complex organisation.

A sound understanding of awards, employment conditions and payroll governance.

Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Strong analytical capability and attention to detail.

The ability to work effectively in a changing and evolving environment.

A proactive approach to process improvement and team leadership.
