Position Overview

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Steel Fixer to join our team on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for positioning and securing reinforcing steel and mesh into formwork erecting scaffolding and rigging equipment, and supporting all aspects of steel fixing and concrete reinforcement works across residential and commercial construction sites.

Key duties and responsibilities

• Position, secure and fix reinforcing steel bars and tie wire mesh into concrete formwork to reinforce concrete footings, slabs, walls and other structural elements in accordance with engineering drawings and project specifications.

• Measure, cut and bend reinforcing steel and mesh to the required dimensions, and securely tie and position reinforcement prior to concrete pours.

• Erect, assemble and dismantle scaffolding by fitting and lifting tubes, support braces, and related components to provide safe and stable working platforms for construction activities.

• Attach slinging gear, clamps, hooks and bolts to cranes and other hoisting equipment to safely lift, position and install steel reinforcement, structural steel components and other construction materials.

• Implement and strictly adhere to all Work Health, Safety and Environment (WHS&E) policies, procedures and site safety requirements to maintain a safe working environment.

• Inspect, maintain and safely operate reinforcing steelwork, scaffolding, lifting gear and hoisting equipment to ensure compliance with engineering specifications, Australian Standards and site safety requirements.

Required qualifications & skills

• Minimum Certificate II or higher qualification or equivalent in a relevant field

• Minimum 1 year full time or equivalent part-time of work experience in steel fixing or related field

• A sound knowledge of reading and interpreting structural drawings and specifications,

• Proficiency in measuring, cutting, bending and fixing reinforcing steel and mesh, and experience in rigging, scaffolding and hoisting equipment is desirable.

• Applicants must hold a valid Construction Induction (White Card), meet all relevant OH&S requirements, be physically fit to perform manual handling tasks,
