Summary
Our client, Urban National Homes, is seeking to add an experienced Construction Manager to its Melbourne-based team. This Australian-owned family business has more than 16 years of building and construction experience, delivering quality homes across Victoria. The successful applicant will support the company’s commitment to integrity, professional service, strong stakeholder relationships and residential construction outcomes tailored to each client’s design, budget and expectations.
The typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Plan and manage residential construction projects from pre-construction through to final handover.
- Coordinate project resources, construction personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, plant and specialist trades.
- Review architectural, structural and engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- Prepare detailed construction programmes, procurement schedules and project resource allocation plans.
- Monitor project budgets, cash flow, cost forecasts and subcontractor payment claims.
- Develop tender submissions, cost estimates, bills of quantities and contract documentation.
- Administer construction contracts, negotiate variations and monitor commercial performance throughout delivery.
- Coordinate procurement and timely delivery of construction materials, equipment and specialist packages.
- Lead site supervisors, project engineers, subcontractors and multidisciplinary construction teams.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, architects, engineers, authorities and other project stakeholders.
- Coordinate statutory approvals, inspections, occupancy requirements and local authority submissions.
- Manage project risks, programme changes and corrective actions affecting construction outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with workplace safety legislation, building regulations and quality standards.
- Oversee practical completion inspections, defect rectification, commissioning and final project handover.
- Report on project progress, costs, quality, risks and programme performance to management.
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the role:
- Bachelor Degree in Construction Project Management, Building Technology or Building Science, Civil Engineering or similar (at least five years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification).
- At least 12 months of relevant construction management experience overseeing residential, commercial or comparable building projects.
- Demonstrated ability to manage construction programmes, budgets, procurement activities, contracts, variations and project risks effectively.
- Strong experience interpreting architectural, structural and engineering drawings, specifications and other technical construction documentation.
- Proven capability leading project teams, site supervisors, subcontractors, suppliers and specialist trades across multiple workstreams.
- Sound knowledge of workplace safety requirements, building regulations, quality assurance procedures and construction compliance obligations.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills when working with clients, consultants, authorities and construction professionals.
- Strong organisational, commercial and problem-solving skills with the ability to deliver projects safely, efficiently and within budget.
