POSITION PURPOSE

The Greek Language Teacher - Secondary is responsible for delivering high-quality Greek language education in secondary schools that promotes linguistic proficiency, cultural understanding and a lifelong appreciation of Hellenic heritage.

The role supports students to develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in Modern Greek while fostering an understanding of Greek history, traditions, values and contemporary culture. The teacher contributes to preserving and strengthening Greek language and cultural identity within the Western Australian community.

The Greek Language Teacher – Secondary creates an engaging, inclusive and student-centred learning environment that aligns with the school's educational philosophy, curriculum requirements and the mission of the Hellenic Community of Western Australia.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching and Learning

Plan, prepare and deliver engaging Greek language lessons aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum and relevant educational frameworks for secondary school students.

Develop student competency in speaking, listening, reading and writing Modern Greek.

Differentiate teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of diverse students.

Use a variety of teaching methodologies and technologies to enhance student engagement and achievement.

Prepare lesson plans, teaching resources and assessment materials.

Establish a positive and supportive classroom environment that promotes learning and participation.

Create inclusive, supportive, and stimulating classroom environments.

Apply assessment feedback to refine and improve teaching practice.

Student Assessment and Reporting

Assess, monitor and record student progress.

Provide constructive feedback to students and families.

Prepare and deliver timely, accurate reports and feedback, in accordance with school requirements

Maintain accurate student records and assessment data.

Identify students requiring additional support or extension opportunities.

Greek Culture and Community Engagement

Promote Greek culture, traditions, customs and history through classroom learning and community activities.

Support and participate in cultural events, celebrations and commemorations including:

- Greek Independence Day

- OXI Day

- Greek Language and Cultural Festivals

- School and Community Celebrations

Encourage student participation in Greek language competitions, examinations and cultural programs.

Strengthen student connections to Greek identity, heritage and community.

Professional Practice

Maintain high professional and ethical standards.

Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions and professional learning activities.

Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching practice.

Collaborate effectively with colleagues and school leadership.

Work in alignment with the Staff Code of Conduct, organisational values, policies and procedures

Community and Stakeholder Relationships

Build positive relationships with students, parents, families and community members.

Communicate professionally and effectively with all stakeholders.

Represent the Hellenic Community of Western Australia positively within the broader community.

Strong classroom management and student engagement skills.

Proficiency in literacy instruction across reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

Ability to integrate Information and Communications Technology (ICT) effectively to enhance literacy learning
