Key Responsibilities
• Analyse, design, implement and maintain the organisation’s computer network and systems infrastructure to support reliable, secure and efficient business operations.
• Design, configure and manage LAN, WAN, VPN and wireless network environments, including routers, switches, wireless access points and associated network infrastructure.
• Configure, administer and optimise network devices and services, including routing, switching, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN and secure remote-access solutions.
• Analyse network and systems requirements and recommend appropriate infrastructure configurations, technologies and improvements based on operational, performance and security requirements.
• Monitor network and systems performance, capacity, availability and security, identify performance bottlenecks and implement appropriate improvements to maintain system reliability and efficiency.
• Design, configure and maintain Windows Server environments, virtual machines, Linux systems and associated server infrastructure, including integration with cloud-based environments where required.
• Implement and maintain network and systems security controls, including access permissions, endpoint protection, security updates, network segmentation and secure remote-access arrangements.
• Analyse network traffic, system logs and security events using diagnostic and monitoring tools such as Wireshark, Nmap and approved SIEM solutions to identify network faults, vulnerabilities, performance issues and abnormal activity.
• Plan and implement system upgrades, network changes, software patches and infrastructure improvements while assessing compatibility, security, operational impact and system availability.
• Configure and maintain Azure and related cloud services, including identity and access management, system integration and connectivity between cloud and on-premises network environments.
• Develop and maintain backup, system recovery and business-continuity arrangements to minimise service interruption and support the timely restoration of critical systems and data.
• Prepare and maintain network diagrams, system configurations, technical specifications and infrastructure documentation relating to network and systems architecture.
• Collaborate with technical consultants, vendors and business stakeholders to plan, design and implement network, server, cloud and business-system infrastructure projects.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Network Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience in computer network and systems engineering, network administration or systems infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of LAN, WAN, VPN, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching and wireless network technologies.
• Experience configuring and administering routers, switches, VPNs, firewalls and other network infrastructure.
• Experience administering Windows Server environments, virtual machines and associated server infrastructure.
• Demonstrated ability to analyse and troubleshoot complex network, server and connectivity issues.
• Experience monitoring network performance, availability and security and implementing improvements to network reliability and efficiency.
• Understanding of network security, access controls, endpoint security, patch management, backup and system recovery.
• Familiarity with network diagnostic and monitoring tools such as Wireshark, Nmap and SIEM platforms.
• Strong analytical, technical problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to prepare and maintain network diagrams, technical specifications and systems documentation.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Azure and cloud/on-premises infrastructure integration.
Desirable Skills
• Experience with Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services or other cloud infrastructure platforms.
• Experience with virtualisation technologies and Linux environments.
• Knowledge of Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365 and hybrid cloud environments.
• Familiarity with scripting, automation or related technologies used to support network and systems administration.
Travel and Work Requirements
The role is based in Sydney. The employee may be required to attend customer sites in Sydney and, occasionally, travel to Melbourne, Canberra or other Australian locations. Some remote support may be provided outside standard business hours during critical incidents or planned maintenance.
