Relevant trade qualification (Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent)At least [2–3] years of relevant post-qualification experience (or as required by visa criteria)Demonstrated experience working with diesel engines in heavy vehicles or mobile plant equipmentStrong diagnostic and fault-finding skillsAbility to interpret technical manuals and specificationsExperience in mining or heavy industry environments is highly regarded

Position Summary

The Diesel Motor Mechanic is responsible for the diagnosis, maintenance, servicing and repair of diesel-powered engines and associated systems in heavy vehicles and mobile plant equipment used in mining operations. The role focuses on ensuring the reliability, safety and performance of diesel engines and mechanical systems in a high-demand operational environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Diagnose faults in diesel engines and associated mechanical components using appropriate testing equipment and diagnostic toolsCarry out servicing, maintenance and repair of diesel engines in heavy vehicles and mobile mining equipment (e.g. haul trucks, loaders, excavators)Dismantle, inspect, repair and reassemble diesel engines and components in accordance with manufacturer specificationsTest and adjust mechanical parts after repair to ensure optimal performance and compliance with operational standardsPerform scheduled maintenance and preventative service to minimize equipment downtimeIdentify and replace worn or defective engine components, including fuel systems, transmissions, and braking systemsConduct engine performance testing and ensuring equipment operates efficiently and safelyMaintain accurate service records and report on mechanical issues and completed workFollow workplace health and safety procedures, and ensure compliance with site safety standardsSalary $82000-$101000
