Position Summary

The Cold Store Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating the day-to-day operations of a temperature-controlled cold storage facility. The position ensures the safe and efficient receipt, storage, handling, inventory management and dispatch of chilled and frozen products while maintaining cold-chain integrity, food safety, quality and workplace health and safety standards.

The role involves supervising cold storage staff, coordinating stock movements, monitoring storage temperatures, maintaining operational records and ensuring products are prepared and dispatched in accordance with customer and business requirements.

Key Responsibilities

* Manage the daily operations of cold rooms, cool rooms and freezer storage areas.

* Monitor refrigeration and cooling systems to ensure products are maintained at the required temperatures.

* Regularly monitor, record and report temperature and cold-chain data and take appropriate action where temperature deviations occur.

* Coordinate the receiving, unloading, inspection, storage and movement of incoming products.

* Ensure products are appropriately stacked, packed, labelled and stored according to product requirements.

* Maintain accurate inventory records and monitor stock levels, stock movements and storage capacity.

* Implement appropriate stock rotation procedures, including FIFO where applicable.

* Coordinate picking, packing and preparation of products for dispatch.

* Organise and supervise loading and dispatch activities to ensure orders are accurate and dispatched on time.

* Coordinate with transport providers, production teams, customers and other internal departments to ensure efficient movement of goods.

* Ensure all outbound products are correctly labelled and meet customer and food-safety requirements.

* Maintain accurate records relating to stock movements, temperatures, receivals, dispatches and other cold storage activities.

* Conduct and assist with regular stocktakes and investigate discrepancies.

* Supervise, allocate work to and monitor the performance of cold storage employees and warehouse staff.

* Provide training and guidance to employees regarding safe work practices, cold-chain procedures and operational requirements.

* Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements, food safety procedures, GMP and relevant company policies.

* Maintain a safe, clean and organised cold storage and warehouse environment.

* Identify equipment faults or refrigeration issues and coordinate maintenance or repairs as required.

* Monitor warehouse capacity and optimise the use of available cold storage space.

* Assist with workforce planning, shift allocation and daily operational scheduling.

* Monitor operational performance, productivity, stock accuracy and dispatch efficiency.

* Identify operational issues and implement practical solutions to improve efficiency and reduce wastage.

* Maintain documentation and records required for quality assurance, audits and regulatory compliance.

* Support continuous improvement initiatives relating to warehouse processes, cold-chain management, inventory control and distribution.

Staff Supervision

* Lead and supervise cold storage operators, warehouse staff and other relevant employees.

* Allocate daily duties and ensure adequate staffing for operational requirements.

* Monitor employee performance and productivity.

* Provide on-the-job training and guidance.

* Promote a safety-focused and accountable workplace culture.

* Ensure employees follow established cold-chain, food safety and WHS procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

* Previous experience supervising or managing a warehouse/cold storage team.

* Experience with inventory management, receivals and dispatch operations.

* Experience working with temperature-controlled products and cold-chain procedures.

* Forklift licence and/or experience operating warehouse equipment is desirable.

* Knowledge of Australian WHS and food safety requirements is highly regarded.

Working Environment

The position may require working within chilled and frozen storage areas and may involve exposure to low temperatures for periods of time. The role may also require standing, walking, manual handling and working flexible shifts depending on operational requirements.
