FUEL ENERGY PTY LTD About the Position Ampol Wellington is seeking an experienced Retail Manager (General) to manage the day-to-day operations of our service station and convenience retail business. The position is responsible for coordinating retail operations, managing employees, controlling stock and purchasing, monitoring sales and financial performance, maintaining customer service standards, and ensuring the business operates safely and efficiently.
Key Duties and Responsibilities Manage and coordinate the daily operations of the service station, convenience store and associated retail activities. Plan and organise daily retail activities to ensure efficient store operations and appropriate customer service. Determine and maintain suitable product ranges, stock levels and displays based on customer demand and sales performance.
Monitor fuel and convenience-store product availability and coordinate replenishment to maintain adequate stock levels. Monitor inventory, conduct regular stock checks and investigate stock discrepancies, wastage and losses. Coordinate purchasing of convenience-store products and other retail supplies from approved suppliers.
Liaise with suppliers regarding product availability, pricing, orders and deliveries. Receive and check deliveries and ensure products are correctly stored, displayed and priced. Monitor retail pricing and implement appropriate pricing strategies.
Plan and implement promotional activities to increase sales and attract and retain customers. Monitor sales results and identify opportunities to improve revenue and profitability. Maintain accurate records relating to sales, stock, purchasing, expenses and other retail transactions.
Assist with preparing and monitoring operating budgets, expenditure and cost-control measures. Review operating costs and identify opportunities to improve business efficiency. Recruit, train, supervise and coordinate retail employees.
Prepare staff rosters and allocate duties according to operational requirements and trading periods. Monitor employee performance, attendance, customer service and compliance with workplace procedures. Provide training and guidance to staff regarding store procedures, customer service, stock handling and workplace safety.
Manage customer enquiries and complaints and ensure issues are resolved professionally. Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation, merchandising and customer service throughout the premises. Monitor point-of-sale systems and ensure sales transactions and cash-handling procedures are properly followed.
Ensure staff follow established procedures for cash handling, stock control and daily store operations. Monitor workplace health and safety requirements and ensure staff follow relevant safety procedures. Maintain appropriate operational procedures for a service station environment, including safe handling and storage of relevant products and materials.
Ensure the business complies with applicable retail, workplace health and safety and operational requirements. Identify operational problems and implement practical improvements to increase efficiency and service quality. Monitor customer demand and local trading conditions and adjust stock, staffing and promotional activities accordingly.
Coordinate store operations during busy trading periods to maintain efficient service. Report significant operational, staffing, stock and financial matters to the business owner/management. Ensure the premises, retail facilities and customer areas are maintained to an appropriate operational standard.
Assist management with implementing business strategies and initiatives designed to improve sales, customer satisfaction and profitability. Essential Requirements Minimum 1 year of relevant retail management or supervisory experience. Demonstrated experience managing staff in a retail environment.
Experience with stock control, purchasing and retail operations. Experience monitoring sales and controlling operating costs. Strong customer service and communication skills.
Good organisational and problem-solving abilities. Ability to manage staff rosters, training and employee performance. Ability to work independently and take responsibility for daily retail operations.
