Our client, Martu Waru Pty Ltd, is a proudly Indigenous-led Western Australian company providing building, construction, maintenance, civil, fabrication and electrical services across metropolitan, regional and remote Western Australia.
Due to continued growth, our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Painter to join their team in Port Hedland, Western Australia.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing, painting and finishing surfaces across construction, maintenance, commercial, government, mining and other projects in the Pilbara and regional Western Australia. The role requires attention to detail, quality workmanship and a strong commitment to safe and efficient work practices.
Key Responsibilities
• Safely set up ladders, scaffolding and work platforms and use protective coverings to safeguard surrounding surfaces, fixtures and work areas.
• Prepare surfaces for painting by removing existing paint, wallpaper and other coatings and repairing imperfections, holes, cracks and damaged areas.
• Sand, smooth, seal and prime surfaces to ensure they are properly prepared for painting and finishing.
• Select and prepare appropriate paints, coatings, stains, varnishes and other finishing products according to project requirements.
• Mix paints and coatings to achieve the required colours, consistency and finish.
• Apply paints, stains, varnishes, primers and protective coatings using brushes, rollers, spray equipment and other suitable application methods.
• Apply decorative and protective finishes to walls, ceilings, doors, frames, fixtures and other surfaces.
• Install wallpaper and other wall coverings where required, ensuring patterns are correctly matched and edges are neatly finished.
• Carry out repainting, restoration, touch-up and maintenance works to existing surfaces.
• Repair minor timberwork and prepare window and door frames for painting where required.
• Assist with minor window repairs and glass replacement where appropriate and within the scope of the role.
• Inspect completed work to ensure surfaces are evenly coated and meet required quality and finish standards.
• Clean and maintain painting tools, spray equipment, ladders and other work equipment.
• Safely handle, store and dispose of paints, solvents, coatings and other materials in accordance with workplace requirements.
• Work collaboratively with supervisors, tradespeople, clients and other project personnel.
• Complete required job documentation and maintain accurate work records.
• Ensure all work is undertaken safely, efficiently and in accordance with relevant standards, specifications and workplace procedures.
Essential Requirements
• Certificate III in Painting and Decorating (CPC30620) or equivalent relevant trade qualification.
• At least three years of relevant painting and decorating experience.
• Current Construction White Card.
• Current Australian Driver's Licence, with Manual preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in surface preparation, painting, coating and finishing.
• Ability to safely use brushes, rollers, spray equipment, ladders and other painting tools.
• Ability to interpret project specifications and work requirements.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screening.
• National Police Clearance or willingness to obtain one.
• Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
• Working at Heights certification.
• Confined Space certification.
• Elevated Work Platform (EWP) Licence.
• First Aid Certificate.
• HR Driver's Licence.
• Experience with industrial and protective coatings.
• Experience working on commercial, government, mining or remote construction projects.
• Experience with spray painting and specialised coating systems.
This position is open to Australian citizens, permanent residents and candidates who are currently onshore in Australia with valid work rights.
