Disability Support Worker

The High Care Disability Support Worker provides person-centred care and support to individuals living with complex physical, intellectual, neurological, and/or psychosocial disabilities. This role involves assisting participants with high support needs, promoting independence, dignity, choice, and community participation while ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality care in accordance with NDIS Practice Standards and organisational policies.
Key Responsibilities
*Personal Care and Daily Living Support
*Provide high-quality personal care including showering, dressing, grooming, toileting, and continence support.
*Assist with mobility, transfers, and positioning using hoists and other manual handling equipment.
*Support participants with eating and drinking, including mealtime assistance and monitoring swallowing risks.
*Assist with household tasks such as meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, and shopping.
High Care Support
*Support participants with complex health and behavioural needs.
*Assist with medication administration according to organisational policies and procedures.
*Monitor participant health and wellbeing and promptly report any concerns.
*Implement care plans, behaviour support plans, and risk management strategies.
*Provide support for participants requiring specialised care including PEG feeding, epilepsy management, catheter care, bowel care, and other delegated health supports where appropriately trained.
Community Participation
*Support participants to access community activities, appointments, education, employment, and social engagements.
*Encourage skill development, independence, and inclusion within the community.
*Promote participant choice, control, and self-advocacy.
Documentation and Reporting
*Maintain accurate progress notes and incident reports.
*Record medication administration and health observations as required.
*Communicate effectively with families, guardians, allied health professionals, and support teams.
*Participate in team meetings, training, and supervision sessions.
Safety and Compliance
*Follow NDIS Practice Standards, Code of Conduct, and organisational policies.
*Maintain a safe environment for participants and staff.
*Adhere to infection control and workplace health and safety requirements.
*Report incidents, hazards, and safeguarding concerns promptly.
Essential Requirements
*Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability, Community Services, or related field.
*Experience supporting people with high and complex care needs.
*Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
*Current NDIS Worker Screening Check.
*Working with Children Check
*Current unrestricted Australian Driver's Licence.
*Reliable vehicle with comprehensive insurance
*Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and overnight shifts.
*Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

*Additional relevant certifications in disability or community services.
*Experience working within the NDIS environment.
