About the role
As a Tree Worker / Reforestation Supervisor, you will support the delivery of commercial tree planting, reforestation and ecological restoration projects in both urban and regional areas, including practical tree and vegetation work with site preparation, planting operations, seedling care, quality control and coordination of field teams. You will also be responsible for helping ensure trees and seedlings are safely handled, correctly planted, maintained and protected to achieve project specifications and successful establishment.
Key Responsibilities
• Inspect and assess the condition, health and safety of trees and shrubs, identifying damaged, diseased, dead or potentially hazardous trees and determining appropriate tree care and maintenance requirements.
• Prune, trim and shape trees and shrubs to promote healthy growth, remove damaged or unwanted branches and maintain the structural condition and safety of trees across planting and restoration sites.
• Identify and treat pests, diseases and other tree health problems, undertaking appropriate tree care, vegetation management and preventative maintenance activities.
• Undertake tree removal and remedial tree work where trees are dead, damaged, decaying, unsafe or unsuitable for the site, including safe removal of branches and vegetation as required.
• Safely operate, inspect and maintain tree-care equipment and tools, including chainsaws, pruning equipment and other powered or manual equipment used in tree maintenance, planting and vegetation management.
• Undertake tree risk and quality assessments, monitoring tree condition, structural integrity and establishment and identifying corrective maintenance or replacement requirements.
• Undertake tree planting, reforestation and ecological restoration activities, including site preparation, planting seedlings and young trees, staking, watering, mulching and other establishment and silvicultural work.
• Provide practical advice and instruction on tree care and maintenance, including appropriate planting, pruning, tree protection, watering and ongoing maintenance practices to support tree health and survival.
• Supervise and coordinate field crews undertaking tree planting and tree-care operations, allocating work, demonstrating correct tree-care techniques, training and motivating staff, and monitoring the quality and safety of work performed.
• Coordinate seedlings, equipment and field operations and maintain appropriate records, including seedling hydration and distribution, tree health and survival observations, completed tree-care activities, quality assurance checks and compliance with WHS, environmental and biosecurity requirements.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
• At least 3 years practical experience in tree planting, reforestation, forestry, arboriculture, horticulture, land management or ecological restoration.
• Knowledge of tree planting, seedling handling, tree establishment and basic silvicultural and vegetation management practices.
• Ability to identify tree health and establishment issues and undertake appropriate tree care and maintenance activities.
• Experience coordinating or supervising field-based teams and providing practical instruction and training to workers.
• Ability to safely use and maintain tree planting, pruning, vegetation management and other relevant hand and powered equipment.
• Good organisational skills with the ability to coordinate seedlings, equipment, personnel and daily field activities across planting sites.
• Understanding of workplace health and safety, environmental protection and biosecurity requirements applicable to outdoor field operations.
• Ability to work effectively outdoors in physically demanding conditions and across varied terrain and weather conditions.
• Good communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate planting, quality assurance and field activity records.
• Relevant industry training or demonstrated practical experience in tree planting, tree care, forestry or revegetation operations.
Licences
• Current Australian driver's licence is desirable and may be required for travel between project sites.
• Construction Industry White Card where required for work undertaken on construction or infrastructure sites.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification is desirable.
• Relevant machinery, chainsaw, chemical application or other competency licences/tickets are desirable where required by the duties performed.
