Motel Manager
About this job
Spa Village Motel sits in the centre of Moree, in north-west New South Wales, a town known right across the country for its artesian mineral baths. The property holds 52 spacious rooms, all renovated in 2023 and ranging from standard accommodation through to executive large twin rooms, each with a private ensuite, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, a bar fridge, microwave, toaster and tea and coffee facilities. Guests also have the use of an outdoor pool, a self-service laundry, a bar, dining and conference facilities, room service and off-street parking with room for coaches, trucks and trailers, and the motel is pet friendly. Group travel is what we are best known for. Running a property of this size, with a steady flow of group business alongside overnight and long-stay guests, takes an experienced hand, and we are now looking for a Motel Manager to take charge of the day-to-day operation and hold a consistent standard across rooms, food and beverage, and functions.
Motel Manager | Spa Village Motel - Moree, NSW
Key Responsibilities
• Take day-to-day charge of the 52-room property, directing reception and reservations so that rates, availability and room allocations stay accurate across our own booking channels and the platforms we list on.
• Oversee housekeeping across the whole property, setting room presentation standards, scheduling servicing around group turnovers, and checking finished rooms against the standard set by the 2023 refurbishment.
• Coordinate group bookings from the first enquiry through to departure, working with coach operators, sporting clubs, community and hobby groups and families on room blocks, arrival times, catering and billing.
• Plan and supervise trading in the bar, dining room and conference space, covering function set-ups, meal sittings for large groups, beverage service and the staffing each event calls for.
• Build and price catering packages around what each group actually needs, confirming menus, dietary requirements and service times with the organiser well before arrival.
• Keep the property within its liquor licensing obligations at all times, covering responsible service of alcohol, current staff certification, trading hours and signage, along with the other statutory approvals the premises trades under.
• Supervise security arrangements across the site, covering after-hours access and key control, guest and staff safety, the car park and the response to any incident on the property.
• Look after the grounds and the fabric of the property, from the gardens and pool surrounds through to the buildings and car park, including pool water quality and safety signage, and schedule repairs so rooms are held out of service for as little time as possible.
• Manage room service and in-room guest requests, including how deliveries are timed around group meal sittings and late arrivals.
• Assess guest satisfaction continuously: respond to online reviews, act on feedback given at the desk, deal with complaints personally, and look behind recurring comments so the cause is fixed rather than the symptom.
• Debrief tour and group organisers after departure, and use what they tell us to sharpen the way the next booking is run.
• Oversee the property's accounting, taking in daily takings and banking, group deposits and invoicing, accounts payable, payroll input and the monthly reporting the owners rely on.
• Run purchasing across linen, guest amenities, cleaning consumables, beverages and kitchen supplies, negotiating with suppliers, holding stock at sensible levels and keeping costs within budget.
• Track occupancy, average room rate and revenue against budget, adjusting rates and inventory in response to demand from local events, sporting fixtures, seasonal work in the district and passing trade.
• Carry responsibility for work health and safety across the site, taking in staff induction, chemical and manual handling in housekeeping, hazard reporting, incident investigation and safety records.
• Maintain food safety and hygiene standards through the kitchen and bar, including temperature records, cleaning schedules and supplier compliance.
• Recruit, roster, train and supervise reception, housekeeping, maintenance and food and beverage staff, setting the service standard and managing performance day to day.
• Help guests get the most out of the district by recommending the artesian baths, local attractions, dining and events, and by arranging tours, coach movements, airport transfers and other transport.
• Stay close to the coach and tour operators, sporting associations, and the corporate, government and contractor accounts that send us repeat business, and follow up new group leads.
Qualifications and Experience
• At least 1 year of relevant experience in motel, hotel or accommodation management, or in a senior supervisory role in hospitality.
• An AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma.
Personal Attributes
• Calm and organised when a full house, a coach group and a function all land on the same afternoon.
• A natural host, comfortable dealing with guests, tour organisers and staff alike.
• Sound commercial judgement, with a close eye on occupancy, rate and cost.
• Hands-on, and willing to step in wherever the property needs it.
• Reliable and trustworthy with keys, cash and the property when the owners are not on site.

Salary: $75,000 to $85,000 plus superannuation per annum
