Due to ongoing business requirements and demand for landscaping services, the company is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Landscape Gardener to support its landscaping operations.

About the Role

The Landscape Gardener will be responsible for planning, constructing, establishing and maintaining garden landscapes for residential and commercial projects.

The role involves preparing landscape sites, interpreting and preparing landscape plans, selecting appropriate plants and construction materials, establishing lawns and garden beds, planting trees and shrubs, and constructing a range of hardscape and softscape features.

The successful applicant will have sound practical knowledge of landscape construction, horticultural practices, plant establishment and garden maintenance, together with the ability to safely operate landscaping tools, machinery and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

• Preparing landscape plans and drawings, selecting appropriate plants and construction materials, and scheduling landscape construction activities.

• Setting out landscape areas and installing hardscape and softscape structures in accordance with landscape plans and project requirements.

• Constructing and installing landscape features including gravel and paved areas, retaining and garden walls, fences, trellises, pergolas, ponds and other garden structures.

• Preparing seedbeds, garden beds, soil and growing sites for planting and landscape establishment.

• Planting and establishing trees, shrubs, bushes, hedges, flowers, bulbs and other ornamental plants.

• Preparing lawn areas by levelling and conditioning soil, spreading topsoil, sowing grass seed and laying instant turf.

• Undertaking soil preparation, fertilising, mulching, pruning and other activities necessary for the establishment and ongoing health of landscaped areas.

• Installing and assisting with irrigation and watering systems required for landscaped gardens and planted areas.

• Carrying out garden maintenance activities, including mowing, edging, pruning, weeding, fertilising and seasonal landscape maintenance.

• Monitoring the condition of plants, lawns and landscaped areas and undertaking appropriate corrective or maintenance work.

• Operating and maintaining landscaping tools, machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.

• Calculating and coordinating quantities of plants, soil, turf, paving and other landscaping materials required for individual projects.

• Liaising with clients regarding landscaping requirements and providing practical advice concerning plant selection, garden establishment and ongoing landscape care.

• Ensuring landscaping projects are completed in accordance with plans, specifications, workplace health and safety requirements and company quality standards.

• Maintaining clean, safe and organised work areas and ensuring tools and equipment are appropriately maintained.

Requirements

Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents are encouraged to apply.

Applicants should possess:

• AQF Certificate III in Landscape Construction, Horticulture or another closely related field, including at least two years of relevant on-the-job training;

OR

• AQF Certificate IV in Landscape Construction, Horticulture or a closely related discipline;

OR

• At least three years of relevant work experience may substitute for the formal qualifications outlined above.

In some circumstances, relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification.

Applicants should also demonstrate:

• Relevant practical experience in landscape gardening, landscape construction, horticulture or a closely related field.

• Demonstrated ability to plan, establish and construct garden landscapes.

• Knowledge of plant species, soil preparation, planting techniques, turf establishment and general horticultural practices.

• Experience constructing hardscape and softscape landscape features.

• Ability to interpret landscape plans, drawings and project specifications.

• Experience using landscaping tools, machinery and equipment safely.

• Understanding of irrigation and watering requirements for landscaped areas.

• Knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements relevant to landscaping and outdoor construction work.

• Strong organisational, communication and customer service skills.

• Ability to undertake physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

• Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a landscaping team.

• Current Australian Driver Licence (preferred).
