Due to continued growth, our client is seeking an experienced Accountant (General) - Accounts Administrator & Payroll to join its growing Civil Construction & Logistics business.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and supporting the company's accounting, taxation, payroll and financial administration functions.
Key Responsibilities
Manage accounts payable functions, including reviewing, reconciling and processing invoices
Ensure supplier invoices are processed and paid in accordance with agreed payment terms
Reconcile company credit cards and financial transactions through MYOB
Manage accounts receivable functions, including preparing and issuing invoices to clients
Reconcile payments received and monitor outstanding accounts
Follow up overdue accounts and assist with maintaining effective cash-flow management
Prepare and calculate quarterly BAS requirements for the group of companies
Assist with BAS lodgement and payment to the relevant authorities
Calculate payroll tax obligations and ensure accurate and timely lodgement and payment
Monitor and reconcile fuel usage and calculate applicable fuel tax rebate claims through the ATO
Review employee timesheets and calculate wages, allowances, PAYE tax and superannuation
Process weekly payroll in accordance with employment contracts and applicable requirements
Prepare and issue employee payslips
Manage employee Long Service Leave registrations, contributions and records
Assist employees with Long Service Leave applications and related enquiries
Research relevant taxation legislation and determine the company's taxation obligations
Assist with ensuring the business remains compliant with relevant taxation and financial requirements
Maintain accurate accounting, payroll and financial records
Reconcile financial accounts and investigate discrepancies where required
Provide financial information and accounting support to management
Research available government grants and identify opportunities relevant to the business
Prepare and assist with applications to government departments for eligible grants
Identify opportunities to improve accounting, payroll and financial administration processes
Maintain confidentiality of financial, payroll and employee information
Undertake other accounting and financial duties as required
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Relevant accounting qualification
Demonstrated experience in accounting and financial administration
Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable
Demonstrated payroll processing experience
Experience using MYOB or similar accounting software
Knowledge of BAS, payroll tax, PAYE tax and superannuation requirements
Understanding of Australian taxation and financial compliance requirements
Experience with financial reconciliations and maintaining accounting records
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Strong organisational and time-management skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
High level of integrity and confidentiality
Proactive approach to identifying and resolving financial and accounting issues
Qualifications
Relevant bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
Previous experience in an accounting role is highly desirable
Experience with MYOB and Australian accounting processes will be highly regarded
