Technology Adaptation & Design Modification:
· Analyse and modify existing trailer blueprints, skeletal chassis layouts, and suspension components to improve aerodynamics, payload capability, and structural safety.
· Use 3D CAD software to prepare and update manufacturing drawings, schematics, and Bill of Materials (BOM) according to the Australian Design Rules (ADRs) for heavy trailers.
Adapt established welding, fabrication, and laser-cutting technologies to minimize raw material waste on the production floor.
Testing, Validation & Quality Control:
· Set up and run testing procedures for newly manufactured trailer prototypes, focusing on stress, load-bearing capacities, and weld integrity.
· Conduct non-destructive testing (NDT) and structural evaluations to ensure compliance with Australian manufacturing standards.
Troubleshoot mechanical failures or structural flexing issues identified during trailer field tests and execute modifications.
Production System Optimisation:
· Analyse current assembly line technologies, and make recommendations to improve robotic welding cells and automated tooling systems.
· Schedule and detail production activities, coordinating raw material processing with assembly phases to eliminate assembly bottlenecks.
Establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety policies for trailer installation, modification, and final inspection lines.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Collaborate closely with professional engineers, floor supervisors, and fabricators to ensure practical implementation of design updates on the shop floor.
Provide engineering tech support to procurement teams during the sourcing and evaluation of trailer components, such as axles, braking systems, and hydraulic lifts.
The ideal candidate will be / have:
· A Bachelor of Engineering Technology degree or a closely related three to four years engineering discipline.
· Proficiency in 3D modeling programs (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD), Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software, and a firm understanding of trailer manufacturing standards.
· Strong attention to detail
· Good communication skills
· Commitment to workplace safety
· Reliable, punctual and dependable
· Positive attitude and strong work ethic
