We are seeking a Systems Administrator to look after the firm’s own platforms and the environments we run for clients. The role sits within the Adelaide technical team and covers the day-to-day health of servers, operating platforms, supporting software and the data stores that sit behind client services.

Key duties and responsibilities

The Systems Administrator will:

• Build, configure and keep current the operating platforms used by the business and its managed-service clients, including the servers, supporting applications and data stores that sit underneath day-to-day operations.

• Shape how information is organised across those platforms, including the layout of records, field definitions and consistent naming, so that data remains usable and reliable as systems grow.

• Put in place routine copy and restore arrangements, control who can reach which systems, and keep the company ready to bring services back if an outage or security event occurs.

• Write and update the practical instructions, internal standards and run-books that the technical team uses, and keep an accurate record of changes, incidents and system activity.

• Validate patches, version changes and configuration updates before they go live, recreate reported problems, record what was found, and close each issue under the firm’s quality process.

• Investigate and correct faults on servers, related software, end-user machines and network links, staying with the job until the affected service is stable again.

• Review how equipment, applications and connectivity sit together at each location, adjust settings where performance is dropping, and advise management when additional capacity or a refresh is needed.

• Work with external security product vendors and contracted suppliers, select and look after protective tools in use, and check that agreed service levels are being met.

Skills, qualifications and experience required

• Bachelor degree or higher qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science or a closely related field (or equivalent relevant experience and/or vendor certification).

• At least one year or more relevant experience administering operating systems, servers, associated software and databases in a production or managed-service environment.

• Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining backup, recovery, access-control and system-security processes.

• Ability to diagnose and resolve server, workstation and communications faults and to document systems, procedures and operational records to a professional standard.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the capacity to work as part of a local technical team supporting both internal infrastructure and client environments.
