Salary: $89,038 per annum + superannuation

Kamalnicejit Pty Ltd, trading as Maree's Café, is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Chef to join our team on a full-time basis at our South Brisbane location.

About the Position

The successful applicant will be responsible for the preparation, cooking and presentation of meals and for assisting with the efficient day-to-day operation of the kitchen.

The position requires a qualified Chef who can work effectively in a busy commercial kitchen while maintaining consistently high standards of food quality, presentation, hygiene and food safety.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

• Preparing, seasoning and cooking a variety of meals in accordance with established recipes and quality standards;

• Planning menus and contributing to the development and improvement of menu offerings;

• Estimating food requirements, food costs and labour costs;

• Ordering food, ingredients and other kitchen supplies;

• Checking the quality and freshness of ingredients and food products;

• Monitoring the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation;

• Ensuring meals are prepared and presented consistently and within required service times;

• Discussing food preparation and kitchen operational matters with management, kitchen staff and waiting staff;

• Demonstrating cooking techniques and advising staff on appropriate food preparation and cooking procedures;

• Maintaining appropriate portion control and minimising food wastage;

• Monitoring stock levels and assisting with stock control, rotation and ordering;

• Ensuring food is stored safely and appropriately;

• Freezing and preserving food where required;

• Maintaining a clean, safe and organised kitchen;

• Explaining and enforcing food safety and hygiene requirements;

• Ensuring compliance with applicable food safety, HACCP and workplace health and safety requirements;

• Assisting with the selection, training and supervision of kitchen staff where required; and

• Working collaboratively with management, kitchen staff and front-of-house staff to ensure the efficient operation of the business.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Applicants must have:

• Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery recognised in Australia, or a higher relevant qualification;

• A minimum of one (1) year of relevant professional work experience as a qualified Chef;

• A Food Safety Certificate, or willingness to obtain one;

• Sound knowledge of food safety requirements, HACCP principles and workplace health and safety standards;

• Demonstrated commercial cooking and food preparation skills;

• Strong organisational and time-management skills;

• Good communication and teamwork skills;

• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a busy commercial kitchen;

• Ability to maintain consistent food quality and presentation standards; and

• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Employment Conditions

This is a full-time position based at Maree's Café, 188 Montague Road, South Brisbane QLD 4101.

The successful applicant will receive an annual salary of $89,038 plus superannuation.
