Full-Time Bricklayer – SIGMA BUILDING CONTRACTORS

SIGMA BUILDING CONTRACTORS As a Bricklayer at SIGMA BUILDING CONTRACTORS, you will be responsible for carrying out brick, block and masonry construction, installation, repair and maintenance work in accordance with project plans and specifications. You will work closely with supervisors and other trades to ensure projects are completed safely, accurately and to a high standard. Task & responsibilities Review and interpret construction plans, drawings and specifications to identify required materials, measurements and appropriate installation methods. Set up and dismantle restricted-height scaffolding safely in accordance with workplace requirements.

Apply damp-proof and moisture-resistant materials to foundations and prepare mortar beds for the placement of bricks, blocks and masonry units. Lay bricks and blocks in specified courses, patterns, shapes and designs while applying mortar evenly between joints. Position and secure masonry units in mortar, removing excess material and finishing joints to achieve a neat and professional result.

Use levels, measuring tools and other equipment to ensure walls and structures are correctly aligned both vertically and horizontally. Cut, shape, trim and polish bricks and stone using hand tools and machinery, including modifying materials to fit corners, openings and irregular spaces. Carry out repairs, restoration and maintenance of brickwork, concrete blocks and other masonry structures.

Undertake the preparation, shaping and cutting of monumental masonry and lettering where required. Build walls and other structures using stone slabs, large masonry blocks and related construction materials. Prepare and handle mortar and other masonry materials in accordance with project requirements.

Operate and maintain bricklaying tools and equipment safely and effectively. Inspect completed work to ensure it meets project drawings, specifications, quality standards and construction requirements. Work collaboratively with supervisors, tradespeople and other team members to ensure work is completed efficiently and within project timelines.

Follow all workplace health and safety procedures and maintain a clean, organised and safe work area. Qualification & experience 1–3 years of relevant experience working as a Bricklayer or in a closely related masonry role. Relevant trade qualifications in Bricklaying/Blocklaying or an equivalent qualification.

Demonstrated experience reading and interpreting building plans, drawings and specifications. Practical experience laying bricks, blocks, stone and other masonry products. Experience using bricklaying hand tools, cutting equipment and machinery.

A good understanding of mortar preparation, alignment, measurements and construction techniques. Knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements within the construction industry. Good attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality workmanship.

The physical fitness and ability to undertake manual construction work. Good communication and teamwork skills. The ability to work independently and follow instructions when required.
