Position Overview

Pipemakers Australia Pty Ltd is an Australia-wide manufacturer and supplier of PVC and PE pipes, bends and fittings for the plumbing, electrical, civil, industrial, irrigation and mining industries. With manufacturing facilities across Australia and more than 30 years of industry experience, Pipemakers is committed to product quality, technical performance, customer service and sustainable manufacturing practices.

We are seeking a full-time Quality and Materials Testing Technician to support the testing, inspection and quality control of raw materials, in-process products and finished PVC and PE pipe products. The position will conduct material and product testing, interpret test results, identify defects and non-conformances, and assist the production and quality teams in maintaining compliance with applicable standards, specifications and internal procedures.

Position Responsibilities and Tasks:

• Collect samples of raw materials, production batches, in-process products and finished PVC and PE products for testing.

• Conduct visual, dimensional, physical, mechanical, pressure and other quality tests in accordance with approved procedures and product specifications.

• Operate and maintain laboratory testing equipment, measuring instruments and quality-control tools.

• Check the quality, consistency and performance of polymers, compounds, pipes, fittings and other materials used in the manufacturing process.

• Measure product dimensions, weight, appearance, strength and other relevant characteristics against technical specifications and applicable Australian Standards.

• Record testing data accurately in laboratory worksheets, quality-control systems and production records.

• Interpret test results and prepare quality reports, test certificates and other technical documentation.

• Identify product defects, variations and non-conformances, and promptly report issues to the Quality Manager.

• Assist with investigations into quality issues, root-cause analysis and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.

• Monitor testing results and quality trends to identify recurring issues and opportunities for process improvement.

• Support production trials, new product testing, process adjustments and the evaluation of alternative raw materials.

• Liaise with production operators, supervisors, maintenance personnel, engineers and management regarding testing requirements and product quality.

• Maintain accurate calibration, inspection and testing records for laboratory equipment.

• Comply with workplace health and safety, environmental and quality procedures.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Materials Science, Polymer Technology or related field. Alternatively, 3 years of work experience in lieu of the qualifications.

• At least 1 year of relevant experience in materials testing, quality control or manufacturing, preferably within the plastics, polymer, pipe or industrial products sector.

• Understanding of material-testing methods, quality-control processes, technical specifications and product standards.

• Experience using testing equipment, measuring instruments and laboratory or production-quality systems.

• Ability to prepare clear testing reports, quality records and technical documentation.

• Strong attention to detail, organisation and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively with production and quality teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

• Sound understanding of workplace health and safety requirements, including the safe handling of equipment and materials.

Salary: This is a full-time position with competitive remuneration between $80,000 - $100,000 p.a. plus superannuation for a 38-hour work week.
