The business is seeking an experienced and capable Retail Manager to take responsibility for the effective day-to-day management of the retail operation and to contribute to its continued development and commercial performance. We are seeking a motivated Retail Manager to oversee the daily operations of the retail fuel and convenience business.

The successful applicant will be responsible for coordinating staff, maintaining appropriate stock levels, monitoring sales and operating performance, managing customer service standards, coordinating suppliers and ensuring that the premises operate efficiently and in accordance with relevant workplace, health, safety and retail requirements. This is a hands-on management position requiring strong organisational ability, commercial awareness, leadership skills and the capacity to make sound operational decisions in a busy retail environment.

Task & responsibilities Manage and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the retail fuel and convenience premises, ensuring that all areas of the business operate efficiently and customers receive a consistently high standard of service. Supervise, coordinate and support retail employees, including allocating duties, preparing staff rosters, monitoring attendance and ensuring appropriate staffing coverage across trading periods.

Provide day-to-day leadership to staff and promote a professional, productive and customer-focused workplace environment. Monitor employee performance and provide guidance, instruction and feedback to staff regarding their responsibilities, customer service, workplace practices and operational standards. Assist with recruitment, induction and training of retail staff and ensure employees understand workplace procedures and their individual responsibilities.

Monitor daily sales activity and retail performance, identify operational issues and implement practical measures to improve efficiency, customer service and commercial outcomes. Maintain appropriate stock levels across fuel, convenience products and other retail merchandise by monitoring inventory movements, reviewing stock requirements and coordinating replenishment. Coordinate stock receiving, storage and merchandising activities and ensure products are appropriately displayed, priced and available for customers.

Liaise with suppliers and distributors regarding orders, deliveries, stock availability, pricing and other matters affecting the operation of the business. Monitor stock movements and assist with identifying discrepancies, damaged goods, wastage, unusual stock movements and other inventory issues. Maintain appropriate merchandising standards throughout the retail premises, including product presentation, displays, promotional material and general store appearance.

Monitor pricing and promotional activities and ensure that relevant pricing and promotional information is accurately presented to customers. Monitor customer service standards and respond appropriately to customer enquiries, complaints and feedback, resolving issues wherever possible in a professional and timely manner. Maintain accurate operational records, including sales information, stock records, staff-related records, supplier information and other documentation required for the effective management of the business.

Assist with cash handling and reconciliation procedures, monitor daily takings and ensure appropriate controls are followed for financial and transaction-related activities. Monitor operating expenses and identify opportunities to improve resource utilisation and reduce unnecessary operational costs without compromising service quality. Coordinate routine cleaning, presentation and general upkeep of the retail premises and ensure the business is maintained to an appropriate standard for customers and staff.

Monitor equipment, facilities and operational areas and arrange appropriate maintenance or repairs when issues arise. Ensure staff follow workplace health and safety procedures and take appropriate action when hazards, incidents or unsafe practices are identified. Maintain awareness of relevant retail, workplace, health and safety, environmental and fuel-site requirements and ensure operational practices are consistent with applicable obligations.

Assist in maintaining appropriate procedures for the safe handling and sale of fuel and retail products and ensure employees are appropriately instructed in relevant operational practices. Monitor customer and staff safety within the premises and take appropriate action in response to incidents, hazards or operational concerns. Coordinate opening and closing procedures and ensure that required operational, security and cash-handling processes are completed appropriately.

Review daily operational requirements and allocate staff and resources according to customer demand, trading conditions and business priorities. Monitor customer traffic, sales patterns and product demand and provide management with practical observations regarding opportunities to improve the retail operation. Assist with implementing business initiatives, promotional activities and operational improvements designed to increase customer engagement and overall business performance.

Maintain effective communication with business owners and senior management regarding staffing, sales, stock, customer issues, maintenance requirements and other operational matters.
