We are seeking qualified Welders to join our team of dedicated professionals. We offer full-time permanent employment and short-term 3-6 months' non-ongoing contracts with above-award pay rates fully guaranteed under current workplace regulations.

The Welder is responsible for the fabrication, assembly, and repair of metal structures and components in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications. The role also includes a strong focus on maintaining safe work practices and adhering to environmental management standards, whilst maintaining Walz Group goals and objectives.

Technical Duties

Interpret and work from blueprints, technical drawings, and job specifications to determine project requirements.

Select, clean, and prepare metal stock for fabrication tasks.

Mark, cut, and shape metal components using hand tools, flame-cutting torches, and machine tool.

Bend and form metal parts using mechanical tools and heating/hammering methods.

Align and assemble components using measuring instruments and hand tools.

Join metal parts using welding, bolting, and riveting techniques.

Inspect completed welds for bead width, penetration, and conformance to quality standards.

Finish, clean, and polish fabricated components as required.

Safety Management Duties

Follow and promote compliance with all occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.

Conduct risk assessments and participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings.

Identify and report hazards, near-misses, and incidents promptly.

Ensure all tools and equipment are used correctly and maintained in safe working order.

Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

Participate in safety audits and assist in implementing corrective actions.

Environmental Management

Comply with environmental regulations and company policies to minimize environmental impact.

Ensure proper disposal of waste materials, including metal scraps and hazardous substances.

Use environmentally friendly practices where possible in fabrication and finishing processes.

Report environmental hazards and assist in managing spills or contamination incidents.

Contribute to the company's sustainability goals by supporting efficient use of materials and energy.

Skills and Qualifications

Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (or equivalent).

Proficiency in welding (MIG, TIG, Stick), cutting, and metal forming techniques.

Sound knowledge of workplace health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements.

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and plans.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Good communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment

Physical Requirements

Ability to work in physically demanding environments including heights, confined spaces, and hot/cold conditions.

Capability to lift heavy materials and operate heavy machinery and tools.

Endurance to stand, bend, and work for extended periods.
