Yornaning Grazing is seeking an experienced Stationary Plant Operator to join their team. This is a hands-on, full-time role focused primarily on the operation and maintenance of plant equipment critical to feed milling and agricultural operations.

About the Role

As a Stationary Plant Operator, you will operate and maintain stationary plant equipment, with a strong focus on feed mill and grain handling operations. You will be responsible for ensuring production efficiency, feed quality, equipment reliability, and workplace safety.

The successful applicant will ideally also have the ability and willingness to assist with general cropping and agricultural machinery operations during peak seasonal periods.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

Operating and monitoring feed mill plant and processing equipment, including mixers, pellet mills, crushers, hammer mills, conveyors, augers, blowers, and associated machinery.

Operating and monitoring grain handling and storage systems, including silos, grain bins, augers, elevators, grain dryers, and loading/unloading equipment.

Measuring, handling, and loading grains, feed ingredients, additives, and other raw materials into the feed milling system in accordance with production requirements.

Operating feed mill equipment to produce livestock and pig feed, ensuring ingredients are processed and mixed according to required formulas, specifications, and quality standards.

Monitoring the mixing, grinding, pelleting, and conveying processes and adjusting plant settings to maintain consistent feed quality and production efficiency.

Conducting routine inspections of feed mill and stationary plant equipment and identifying faults, blockages, abnormal noises, leaks, or other operational issues.

Performing routine servicing, cleaning, lubrication, and minor mechanical maintenance on feed mill equipment, stationary plant, conveyors, augers, pumps, and associated machinery.

Carrying out basic troubleshooting and minor repairs where appropriate, and reporting major mechanical or electrical faults to the relevant supervisor or maintenance personnel.

Monitoring plant performance, production output, ingredient usage, and equipment operation, and maintaining accurate operational records.

Recording and reporting production data, equipment faults, maintenance requirements, and feed mill issues.

Ensuring feed ingredients and finished feed products are handled, stored, and transferred appropriately to maintain product quality and prevent contamination.

Assisting with the loading, unloading, transfer, and storage of grain, feed ingredients, and finished feed products.

Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe feed mill and plant operating environment, including routine cleaning of machinery and work areas.

Following workplace health and safety procedures, including safe operating procedures, manual handling requirements, lock-out/tag-out procedures, and the correct use of personal protective equipment.

Supporting general farm, cropping, piggery, and agricultural operations when required, particularly during peak production and seasonal periods.

Operating agricultural machinery and mobile plant where appropriately licensed and authorised.

Assisting with cropping operations and machinery work where required, with experience operating agricultural machinery highly regarded.

Working collaboratively with farm and feed mill personnel to ensure the continuous and efficient supply of feed to livestock operations.

Performing other reasonable duties associated with stationary plant, feed milling, grain handling, cropping, and general agricultural operations as directed by management.

Skills & Experience Required Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

Hold an AQF Certificate II or equivalent, plus at least 1.5 years of relevant post-qualification experience; OR

Hold an AQF Certificate III or higher, plus at least 1 year of relevant post-qualification experience; OR

Have at least 1 year of full-time (38+ hours per week) relevant work experience operating stationary plant equipment.

Additional Requirements

Experience with feed mills, grain handling systems, or similar agricultural processing equipment.

Sound mechanical aptitude and the ability to diagnose and address basic faults.

Understanding of safety procedures in an agricultural or plant environment.

Ability to work independently in a rural, team-based setting.

Forklift licence or willingness to obtain one is advantageous.

Experience operating agricultural or cropping machinery is highly regarded.

Prior experience in farming or piggery operations is highly regarded.

Ability and willingness to assist across feed mill, cropping, and general farm operations as required.
