Job Summary

Millett Group’s Side Bar is a vibrant dining and entertainment venue located in Haymarket, New South Wales. The venue offers a diverse food and beverage experience within a busy hospitality environment, with a focus on quality food, consistent service, and high standards of presentation.

We are currently seeking an experienced Chef to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis. This role is suited to a skilled culinary professional with experience in food preparation, menu development, kitchen operations, and maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene, and presentation.

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and preparing food, cooking menu items, coordinating kitchen operations, supervising kitchen staff, managing food preparation processes, and ensuring compliance with food safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and cook a variety of menu items in accordance with established recipes, quality standards, and venue requirements.

• Develop and refine menu items and daily specials while maintaining consistency and quality.

• Prepare ingredients, sauces, marinades, meats, vegetables, and other food items using appropriate cooking techniques.

• Manage daily food preparation activities to ensure efficient kitchen operations and timely service.

• Monitor food quality, taste, portion control, presentation, and consistency of dishes.

• Coordinate kitchen operations during busy service periods to maintain efficient workflow and timely food production.

• Supervise, train, and provide guidance to kitchen staff regarding food preparation, cooking techniques, presentation, and hygiene requirements.

• Allocate kitchen tasks and monitor staff performance to support efficient food preparation and service.

• Monitor stock levels, inspect the quality of ingredients, and coordinate ordering of food supplies.

• Manage food preparation processes to minimise wastage and maintain cost efficiency.

• Ensure compliance with food safety standards, hygiene regulations, and workplace health and safety requirements.

• Maintain cleanliness, organisation, and safety of kitchen areas, equipment, and food storage facilities.

• Assist with menu planning, recipe development, and improvements to existing dishes.

• Monitor customer feedback and make recommendations to improve food quality and dining experience.

• Maintain appropriate records relating to food preparation, stock control, and kitchen compliance requirements.

What We're Looking For

• Relevant qualification in commercial cookery, hospitality, or a related field.

• Minimum one year of relevant experience as a Chef or similar culinary role.

• Strong knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques.

• Experience developing menu items and maintaining consistency of food quality.

• Experience supervising and coordinating kitchen staff in a restaurant or hospitality environment.

• Sound understanding of food safety requirements, hygiene standards, and kitchen operations.

• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple food preparation activities.

• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced hospitality environment.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high food quality standards.

• Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
