VeiraMal Consulting is seeking experienced Senior Dairy Cattle Farm Worker and Dairy Cattle Farm Operators to be a part of our client’s dairy farming business Owen & Sons Pty Ltd in Moyhu. Our client offers a great working environment and a competitive salary for the right candidates.
The successful candidates will contribute to the efficient operation of the dairy farm, supporting milk production, livestock management, animal welfare, farm machinery operations and general farm activities.
1. Senior Dairy Cattle Farm Worker – Key Duties
- Plan and coordinate all aspects of milk production processes, including the management and coordination of milking shed routines.
- Coordinate and implement reproductive programs, including artificial insemination, herd fertility management, oestrous detection and pregnancy monitoring.
- Assist with controlled breeding programs to support the development of improved livestock strains.
- Implement calving procedures, including conducting appropriately authorised internal assessments to minimise the risk of stillbirths or injuries to cows and calves.
- Plan and manage pastures and crops for livestock production and develop livestock feeding plans.
- Inspect livestock to assess animal condition and the effectiveness of feed formulae.
- Supervise animal health programs and handle sick or injured animals in accordance with animal welfare requirements.
- Maintain an optimal environment for livestock consistent with the Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines – Cattle.
- Analyse farm produce and maintain required quality standards.
- Supervise, train and support less experienced employees, including assistant farmhands.
- Implement and monitor quality assurance procedures and maintain accurate and current documentation.
- Manage calf feeding programs, including tubing colostrum where required.
- Assist with and perform irrigation works.
- Ensure food safety, occupational health and safety and animal welfare requirements are met.
- Maintain accurate records relating to livestock, production, stock and inventory.
- Coordinate responses to occupational health and safety and animal welfare emergencies.
- Work independently and make decisions within established workplace guidelines.
2. Dairy Cattle Farm Operators – Key Duties
- Operate milking plants and dairy farm equipment safely and efficiently.
- Read and record instrument information, including milk vat temperatures and cow numbers.
- Identify and report equipment and machinery that is not operating normally.
- Operate farm machinery and undertake multiple functions to achieve quality outcomes.
- Maintain machinery and undertake routine adjustments and size changes.
- Work cooperatively as part of a team and assist other team members with daily farm activities.
- Understand and follow safe working practices and workplace procedures.
- Solve routine problems and make decisions within given guidelines.
- Assist with processes such as machine repair, artificial insemination and fertiliser mix preparation.
- Operate standard measuring equipment.
- Operate computerised systems using menu options for basic farm records and information.
- Assist with milking, calf feeding, livestock handling and general dairy farm activities.
- Assist with irrigation, farm maintenance and other operational duties as required.
- Safely handle, store, prepare and apply chemicals in accordance with workplace requirements.
- Identify maintenance requirements and assist with the upkeep of farm machinery, sheds, fences and equipment.
- Contribute to the team in a specific role while providing assistance to other team members.
- Work independently and without direct supervision when required.
- Follow food safety, animal welfare and occupational health and safety requirements.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in dairy farming, livestock production or a similar agricultural environment.
- Relevant qualifications in Agriculture, Dairy Production, Animal Husbandry or a related field will be highly regarded.
- Experience operating milking plants, farm machinery and dairy-related equipment.
- Knowledge of dairy production, livestock handling, feeding and animal welfare.
- For the Dairy Cattle Farm Operator role, experience in herd fertility, artificial insemination, calving, pasture management and livestock feeding will be highly regarded.
- Understanding of machinery maintenance, equipment operation and fault identification.
- Ability to read and record production and instrument information.
- Ability to use standard measuring equipment and basic computerised systems.
- Understanding of safe working practices, food safety and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Good problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to supervise and support less experienced employees for the Dairy Cattle Farm Operator position.
- Relevant licences for operating farm vehicles, machinery or transporting livestock will be highly regarded.
- Stable work history with good communication and teamwork skills.
- Flexible to work when required.
Remuneration: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 + superannuation
Location: 301 Boggy Creek Road, Moyhu VIC 3732
