OVERVIEW AND PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

- ROM requires a motivated Operations Technician (Environmental) to join the team who are building and starting-up our research facility.

- The R&D Operations Technician will support the development and scaling of our zero emission smelting technologies. This new technology implements processes and chemistries not yet utilised in the industry.

- The position will require intermittent rostered shift work for short periods (up to two weeks at a time) when we operate the R&D smelter for 24x5 or 24x7 operating trials.

LOCATION

The position is based at our Altona North facility in the inner west of Melbourne, Victoria.

Travel to interstate locations for trials will be required.

POSITION

The R&D Operations Technician (Environmental) will carry out the following duties and tasks:

- As part of the R&D team, operate the R&D smelter during trial runs, according to the pre-arranged trial plan.

- Monitor process inputs and outputs, record observations and collect process data

- Assist with equipment setup, cleaning and maintenance, working with tradespeople (such as licenced gas fitters, welders, boilermakers, and licenced electricians) to prepare the R&D smelters for operation and implement process and equipment changes resulting from the analysis of previous trials.

- Contribute to the development of new laboratory infrastructure and the installation and

commissioning of new testing equipment. Assist with the development of customised test

methods, sample collection methods and data collection methods for in-house use.

- Assist in the preparation of Job Safety Analysis and risk assessments for prior to carrying

out smelting trials.

- Assist in the preparation of and application for any required environmental operating permits for the various sites where ROM intend to operate R&D smelters

- Assist in the establishment of any required environmental monitoring

- Assist in the establishment of safety procedures for application to research, manufacturing and laboratory activities.

- Utilise systems and procedures for the collection, analysis and management of trial data and production batch data.

- Maintain records of time spent on various projects for accounting purposes and assist with taxation and/or grant submissions.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

The following qualifications are required for applicants to this role:

- Right to work in Australia

- Certificate III or IV in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering – Mechanical Trade, Cert III in Process Manufacturing or similar qualification; or Undergraduate degree in Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Science, Physics, Chemistry or similar qualification

- Advanced degree (Master of Science or equivalent) in Environmental Studies

- Competency in spreadsheet calculations and data analysis

The following qualifications, licences or certifications are advantageous for applicants to this role:

- Industry qualifications or post-graduate qualifications in quality management and process improvement.

- Fork-lift licence, Fire warden training

EXPERIENCE

Candidates for this role must demonstrate the following required experience:

- Working for a minimum of six years as an environmental specialist monitoring air and water emissions

- Minimum of two years in roles such as Machine Operator, Plant Mechanic, Plant Maintenance, Plant Engineer, Technical Assistant, Research Assistant, Research Engineer, Junior Engineer, Graduate Engineer.

WORKPLACE HEALTH & SAFETY

- The R&D Operations Technician (Environmental) must follow all ROM WH&S policies.

- The role will contribute to the development of new Environmental and Safety policies and procedures for material handling and safe operation of R&D and manufacturing equipment.

- Conduct all operations in an environmentally conscious manner.

- Perform and document Safe Working Procedures such as risk assessments, user manuals and related documentation.

- Conduct and document Job Safety Analyses as and when required.

- Ensure visibility of hazard warnings within the workplace.

- Contribute to a safe workplace – for your personal safety and that of those around you.
