My Australia Direct About the Role As the Foundry Metallurgist you develop, control and provide advice on processes used for casting, alloying, heat treating or welding refined metals, alloys and other materials to produce commercial metal products or develop new alloys and processes. Key Duties and Responsibilities Liaise with general manager to investigate quality issues and making recommendations on chemistry, production process, pattern adjustments etc Provide technical advice about the suitability of metals for different purposes.
Investigate field pricing on raw materials and update system costings Formulate development of metals, and cost this in conjunction with the General Manager Make recommendations and advise on feasibility of new/alternate materials Investigate opportunities for new product & process research for continuous improvement Innovative solutions to metallurgical problems Work in and collaborate with the General Manager and our other engineering and technical staff Keep abreast of and ensure adherence to manufacturing quality standards Oversee operational quality control processes Carry out laboratory-based analysis of samples Use both destructive and non-destructive techniques to test metal quality Investigate production problems Purchase raw materials & furnace related components and consumables Source customer requested specialized metals Oversee monthly stocktake of raw materials for month end processes Control reject inventory, and carry out front office reporting daily Attend Production & Operational meetings Ad-hoc tasks as directed from time to time by the General Manager Skills & Experience: Relevant qualification in Metallurgy.
Experience in foundry, casting, or metal manufacturing environments. Strong knowledge of metallurgy, metal testing, furnace operations, and quality systems. Ability to analyse technical data, troubleshoot issues, and implement practical solutions.
