About the Position

The Painter is responsible for the full delivery of painting works on residential and commercial projects, from setting up access equipment and preparing surfaces through to the application of paints and coatings and the final detailed finishing and touch-up work. The role sits at the centre of the business's service offering, as the quality of preparation and finish directly determines the durability of the work and the reputation the business relies on for repeat and referral business. The successful applicant will work independently on site and alongside supervisors, clients and other trades, managing their own workmanship, equipment and materials, and ensuring that each project is completed safely, efficiently and to the consistent standard expected by Ron & Robin The Painters.

Key Responsibilities

Set up ladders, access equipment and protective coverings before commencing work

Prepare walls, ceilings, timber and other surfaces for painting

Remove existing paint, wallpaper and other finishes where required

Repair minor surface defects, fill holes and cracks, and sand surfaces to achieve a smooth finish

Measure and mix paints, primers and coatings to achieve the required colour and consistency

Apply paints, stains, varnishes and protective coatings using brushes, rollers and spray equipment

Carry out interior and exterior painting and repainting works on residential and commercial projects

Complete detailed finishing and touch-up work to ensure a consistent and professional result

Install wallpaper and ensure patterns, joins and edges are neatly finished where required

Inspect completed work and rectify imperfections or areas requiring additional coating

Clean and maintain painting equipment, tools and work areas

Safely store and handle paints, solvents and other materials

Follow workplace health and safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment

Work with supervisors, clients and other trades to complete projects efficiently and within required timeframes

Requirements

Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply

Certificate III in Painting and Decorating

A minimum of one year of relevant painting experience

Practical competence in surface preparation, including stripping, filling, sanding and priming across plaster, timber, render and metal substrates

Proficiency in brush, roller and spray application, and the ability to mix and tint paints and coatings to achieve the required colour and consistency

Sound working knowledge of paint systems, primers, undercoats and protective coatings, and their correct selection for interior and exterior conditions

Competence in the safe erection and use of ladders, trestles and other access equipment, and in the safe handling and storage of paints and solvents

A strong eye for detail, with the ability to identify and rectify imperfections before handover

Sound communication skills and a courteous, professional manner when working in occupied homes and commercial premises

The ability to work both independently and cooperatively as part of a small team alongside other trades

Reliability, good time management and a commitment to workplace health and safety

A current driver's licence and the ability to travel to sites across Inner Melbourne
