About the role
The Primary Products Quality Assurance Officer is responsible for conducting quality assurance, food safety monitoring, inspection, testing and verification activities across Morco Fresh QLD's fresh food wholesale, processing, storage and distribution operations. The role supports the Company's HACCP-based food safety and quality systems and ensures fresh food products and processing activities comply with established product specifications, food safety requirements, customer standards and applicable Australian food legislation. The position is primarily operational, with approximately 60% of duties undertaken across receiving, processing, packing, cold storage and dispatch areas and 40% involving QA records, documentation and related administrative activities.
Key responsibilities
Inspect and assess incoming fresh produce and other fresh food products against established quality, food safety, temperature, packaging and specification requirements
Conduct sampling, testing and routine quality assurance inspections of fresh produce, including fruit and vegetables, leafy vegetables, herbs, berries, mushrooms, eggs and other fresh food products
Monitor quality and food safety controls across fresh food processing activities, including sorting, grading, peeling, shredding, slicing, dicing, repacking and relabelling
Monitor cold-chain and temperature-control requirements across receiving, refrigerated storage, processing and dispatch
Conduct routine inspections of hygiene, sanitation, food handling, pest-control and food-contact areas and report identified deficiencies
Monitor and verify HACCP and other food safety controls and maintain relevant monitoring and verification records
Conduct internal food safety and quality assurance audits and participate in customer and certification audits as required
Identify, document and report product quality and food safety non-conformances and assist with corrective and preventive actions
Assist with traceability checks, mock recalls and recall activities when required
Monitor compliance with applicable customer-specific quality and food safety requirements
Early Morning starts (5am to 6am) are required
5 Days a week on site; we do not offer hybrid or working from home
About you
Minimum 2 years' experience in quality assurance and/or food safety within the fresh food, food processing, food wholesale or related industry
Working knowledge of food safety, quality assurance and hygiene principles
Ability to conduct product inspections, sampling, testing and quality verification activities
Ability to maintain accurate QA and food safety records
HACCP training or certification
Internal food safety or quality auditing training
Experience with SQF, Freshcare or other recognised food safety and quality systems
Experience in fresh produce handling, processing or wholesale operations
Passionate about maintaining high-quality standards
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
