Berry Sweet Farms About the Role This is a key operational management position responsible for coordinating the day-to-day activities of our packing and production facility. Working closely with the Farm Manager, harvest, quality, maintenance and dispatch teams, you will be responsible for ensuring incoming fruit is efficiently graded, packed, cooled and dispatched while meeting customer specifications, food safety requirements and Berry Sweet quality standards.
The role combines people management, production coordination, quality control and facility operations , with responsibility for ensuring the facility operates safely and efficiently. Key Duties and Responsibilities Manage and coordinate the daily operation of the packing and production facility. Supervise packing, grading and facility employees and allocate daily work requirements.
Plan labour and resources according to incoming crop volumes, production requirements and customer orders. Ensure correct handling, grading and packing of fruit to meet customer specifications. Assess incoming product quality and determine appropriate grading and packing requirements.
Monitor fruit quality throughout the grading and packing process. Identify and rectify issues relating to grading quality, product handling or mechanical damage. Monitor facility productivity, labour performance and production output.
Ensure production targets and customer requirements are achieved efficiently. Manage correct cool-chain procedures throughout product handling, storage and dispatch. Coordinate with harvest teams to manage incoming fruit volumes and production priorities.
Liaise closely with Farm Management, Harvest Supervisors, Quality Assurance, Maintenance and Dispatch. Ensure all Quality Assurance records are completed accurately and provide full product traceability. Ensure food safety, hygiene and quality procedures are consistently followed.
Ensure employees are appropriately trained and working in accordance with standard operating procedures. Provide leadership, training and direction to supervisors and facility employees. Conduct pre-starts, toolbox meetings and operational training.
Monitor equipment performance and report maintenance or operational issues. Coordinate with maintenance personnel to minimise disruption and production downtime. Ensure waste and rejected products are handled according to company procedures.
Oversee dispatch activities to ensure orders are prepared correctly and on time. Maintain accurate production, labour, quality and operational records. Identify opportunities to improve productivity, labour efficiency, product quality and facility processes.
Ensure compliance with WHS, food safety, quality assurance and company procedures. Skills and Experience The successful applicant will ideally have: Previous experience supervising or managing teams within a commercial horticultural, agricultural, food production or packing environment. Experience managing packing, grading, production or post-harvest operations.
Strong people management and team leadership skills. Experience planning labour and coordinating daily production activities. Understanding of product quality, grading and customer specifications.
Knowledge of food safety, hygiene, quality assurance and traceability requirements. Understanding of cool-chain management and fresh produce handling. Ability to monitor productivity, labour performance and production targets.
Strong organisational, planning and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively with farm, harvest, maintenance, quality and dispatch teams. Good communication and record-keeping skills.
A practical, hands-on and commercially focused approach. Current Australian driver's licence or ability to obtain one. Experience within fresh produce, berry production or horticultural packing facilities would be highly regarded.
