Pay: From $29.45 per hour + superannuation, in accordance with the applicable classification under the Timber Industry Award 2020. Applicable allowances, overtime and penalty rates may apply.

About the Role

CoreStaff is seeking 10 reliable Sawmill Workers / General Sawmill Hands for full-time, ongoing employment at a timber manufacturing operation in Glenorchy, Tasmania.

These positions are being recruited to support ongoing production requirements within a busy sawmill and timber processing environment.

The successful applicants will work as part of a production team assisting with the processing, handling, stacking, packing, racking and storage of timber products.

Key Duties

Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

Stacking timber products safely and efficiently.

Packing and preparing timber products for storage or dispatch.

Racking and organising timber products in designated areas.

Sorting timber according to size, grade, type and production requirements.

Feeding, receiving and handling timber products throughout the production process.

Moving timber and materials between production, storage and dispatch areas.

Loading and unloading timber products where required.

Assisting with production line activities.

Inspecting timber products for obvious defects or quality issues and reporting concerns.

Operating basic production equipment following appropriate training.

Maintaining clean, tidy and organised work areas.

Following safe manual-handling practices.

Working safely around machinery, vehicles and moving equipment.

Following all workplace health and safety procedures and supervisor instructions.

Performing other general sawmill and production duties as required.

Skills and Experience

Applicants should have:

Previous experience in a sawmill, timber processing, manufacturing, production, warehousing or similar environment.

Experience with stacking, packing, racking or handling timber products is highly regarded.

Ability to perform repetitive manual handling and physical production duties.

Ability to safely lift, move, stack and organise timber products.

Good attention to detail.

Ability to follow production instructions and workplace procedures.

Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.

Reliable attendance and punctuality.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Good communication skills.

A strong work ethic and willingness to contribute to production requirements.

Previous sawmill or timber experience is advantageous, but applicants with relevant manufacturing, production, warehousing, packing or manual-handling experience are encouraged to apply.

Employment Conditions

Full-time, ongoing employment.

38 hours per week.

Monday to Friday day shift.

Typical start time: 7:30am.

Approximately 7.6 paid hours per day with an unpaid meal break.

Overtime may be required during periods of increased production and will be paid in accordance with applicable employment conditions.

Weekly pay.

Superannuation paid in accordance with legislation.

Applicable award rates, allowances, overtime and penalty rates will apply where relevant.

Work Environment

This is a physically active role within a busy sawmill and timber processing environment.

The work may involve:

Repetitive lifting, carrying, stacking and packing of timber.

Standing and walking for extended periods.

Bending, reaching and other repetitive physical movements.

Working around sawmill machinery, conveyors, forklifts and other mobile equipment.

Exposure to timber dust and workplace noise.

Working in indoor and outdoor areas depending on production requirements.

Wearing mandatory personal protective equipment (PPE).

Site-specific induction, safety information and appropriate training will be provided.

Mandatory Requirements

Applicants must be able to:

Meet the physical and inherent requirements of the position.

Follow workplace health and safety procedures and supervisor directions.

Wear required PPE.

Work safely around industrial machinery and moving equipment.

Successfully complete any required pre-employment screening, including medical assessment and drug and alcohol screening where applicable.

Provide evidence of relevant experience, licences or qualifications where required.
