Business Analyst

We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst to join our Banking & Financial Services technology team, supporting large-scale digital transformation, product, and automation initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, solution architects, product owners and development teams to elicit, analyse, and translate complex business needs into clear requirements and user stories that drive high-value outcomes. This role suits a senior BA with a strong background in banking/telecom domains, Agile delivery, and exposure to emerging technologies such as RPA, AI/ML, APIs, and Cloud.

Key Responsibilities

? Partner with business stakeholders, solution architects and designers to understand requirements and shape them into clear, technically feasible user stories for development teams.

? Analyse existing business workflows and processes, identifying gaps and opportunities to improve efficiency and deliver measurable value.

? Facilitate story grooming, backlog prioritisation, sprint planning and other Agile ceremonies (stand-ups, retrospectives) in collaboration with Product Owners and Scrum Masters.

? Conduct stakeholder workshops and product demos, and drive data-driven decisions to optimise product and process performance.

? Support release and change management activities, coordinating with Release Train Engineers, Delivery Leads and Service Owners to ensure requirements are met through deployment.

? Document current- and future-state business processes, functional requirements, and acceptance criteria; maintain requirement traceability throughout the delivery lifecycle.

? Identify opportunities for automation (RPA, AI/ML, chatbots, APIs) and work with technical teams to translate business problems into automation use cases.

? Support production incident triage and SIT defect resolution by clarifying business rules and impact to stakeholders.

? Contribute to risk identification and mitigation, ensuring proposed solutions align with compliance, security and data governance requirements typical of regulated banking environments.

? Build and maintain strong relationships with business and IT stakeholders, including senior leaders, to ensure alignment between solutions and organisational goals.

Required Skills & Experience

? 10+ years of overall IT experience, with substantial experience as a Business Analyst, Product Owner, or similar requirements-focused role within Banking.

? Proven experience translating business needs into user stories, functional specifications, and process documentation within Agile/Scrum delivery environments.

? Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to engage and influence business leaders, architects and delivery teams.

? Hands-on experience with backlog management, story grooming, sprint planning and Agile ceremonies.

? Working knowledge of release and change management processes within an enterprise IT environment.

? Exposure to emerging technologies such as Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, APIs and Open Banking, Cloud platforms, and data analytics/dashboards (e.g. Splunk).

? Experience working with Microservices-based or API-driven architectures is highly regarded.

? Prior experience within an Australian banking or telecom environment is highly desirable.

? Excellent problem-solving skills, a collaborative team-player attitude, and a track record of mentoring or coaching junior team members.
