Operating in a fast-paced food retail environment, Subway – Parkes requires effective management of customer demand, inventory, purchasing, sales, staffing, service standards, costs and operational compliance.

Position Overview

The Retail Manager will be responsible for planning, organising and controlling the daily retail operations of Subway – Parkes. The role includes managing product mix, stock levels, purchasing, pricing, marketing and promotional activities, customer service, financial records, budgeting and staff supervision while ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety and applicable operational requirements.

The Retail Manager will provide hands-on leadership and ensure the establishment operates efficiently, maintains appropriate customer service standards and achieves its operational and commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Store Operations & Stock Management

• Plan, organise and manage the day-to-day operations of the establishment.

• Determine appropriate product mix, stock levels and customer service standards.

• Monitor customer demand, sales trends and stock movement to maintain suitable availability of ingredients, beverages, packaging and other retail products.

• Coordinate purchasing and stock replenishment according to sales volumes and operational requirements.

• Liaise with suppliers regarding product availability, pricing, quality and deliveries.

• Maintain accurate inventory records and coordinate regular stocktakes.

• Monitor stock rotation, expiry dates, damaged products, wastage and inventory discrepancies.

• Ensure products, ingredients, packaging and supplies are appropriately stored, handled and accounted for.

• Monitor daily store performance and implement operational improvements where required.

• Coordinate in-store, takeaway and online ordering operations to support efficient and timely customer service.

• Ensure the establishment is appropriately presented and organised throughout trading periods.

Purchasing, Pricing & Marketing

• Formulate and implement purchasing procedures appropriate to the operational requirements of the establishment.

• Review supplier prices, product costs, sales volumes and stock usage to support purchasing decisions.

• Monitor product pricing and implement approved pricing strategies having regard to costs, customer demand, competition and business objectives.

• Develop and implement local marketing and promotional initiatives to support sales and customer engagement.

• Promote and advertise the establishment's goods and services through appropriate channels.

• Coordinate promotional offers, product campaigns and merchandising arrangements.

• Monitor customer purchasing patterns and identify opportunities to improve product offerings and sales performance.

• Evaluate the effectiveness of promotional activities and recommend improvements where appropriate.

Sales & Customer Service

• Maintain high standards of professional, efficient and responsive customer service.

• Oversee the sale of food, beverages and related products to customers through in-store, takeaway and online ordering channels.

• Provide customers with information and advice regarding products, promotions and available services where required.

• Respond to customer enquiries, feedback and complaints promptly and professionally.

• Ensure employees consistently maintain established customer service and sales standards.

• Monitor order accuracy, service times and customer satisfaction.

• Monitor customer feedback and identify opportunities to improve service delivery.

• Build positive relationships with customers and encourage repeat business through reliable service, product quality and availability.

• Resolve escalated customer concerns and implement appropriate corrective measures where required.

Financial Management & Budgeting

• Maintain accurate records of stock levels, sales, purchases, expenses and financial transactions.

• Undertake budgeting for the establishment and monitor expenditure against operational requirements.

• Monitor sales revenue, labour costs, inventory expenditure, wastage and other operating expenses.

• Review financial and operational information to assess store performance.

• Ensure cash handling, point-of-sale and transaction procedures are accurately followed.

• Investigate stock, cash or transaction discrepancies and take appropriate corrective action.

• Prepare sales, stock, labour and operational reports for management as required.

• Monitor daily and periodic sales performance against operational targets.

• Identify opportunities to control expenditure, reduce unnecessary wastage and improve profitability.

• Assist in establishing operational budgets and controlling costs to support the commercial sustainability of the establishment.

Staff Management & Supervision

• Control the selection, induction, training, rostering and supervision of employees.

• Determine staffing requirements according to customer demand, order volumes and trading requirements.

• Prepare and manage staff rosters to maintain appropriate coverage throughout trading periods.

• Allocate duties and responsibilities and monitor completion of assigned tasks.

• Train employees in customer service, sales procedures, stock handling, order processing, point-of-sale operations and relevant store procedures.

• Monitor employee performance and provide guidance, coaching and feedback where required.

• Maintain appropriate staffing levels during peak trading periods.

• Coordinate workflow between customer service and order preparation functions.

• Address operational or staffing issues promptly to minimise disruption to customer service.

• Promote a professional, productive and customer-focused workplace environment.

Workplace Health & Safety

• Ensure compliance with applicable occupational health and safety requirements.

• Maintain a safe, clean and organised environment for employees, customers and visitors.

• Identify workplace hazards and implement appropriate preventative and corrective measures.

• Ensure employees understand and follow safe work procedures.

Skills & Experience

• Proven experience in retail management, quick-service restaurant management, food retail management or a similar customer-focused environment.

• Demonstrated experience managing day-to-day retail operations.

• Strong understanding of inventory control, purchasing, pricing, sales, customer service and operational management.

• Experience maintaining stock and financial transaction records and undertaking budgeting.

Qualifications

• AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in Retail Management, Business, Management or a related field; or

• At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification. In some instances, relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification.
