Finance Broker
About this job
Melbourne's Cheapest Cars has been servicing the car buying needs of Melbourne and country Victoria and delivered more than 140,000 vehicles in that time, with a large share of our business today coming from repeat customers and the family and friends they send our way. Operating from Oakleigh, we sell quality used cars and commercials across more than twenty five makes, from hatchbacks and family SUVs to utes, vans and electric vehicles, with most of our stock one owner ex fleet and carrying documented service history. Every vehicle is workshop tested before it is offered for sale and we do not deal in frame damaged, flood damaged, salvage or repairable write off vehicles. Alongside the yard we run our own workshop, parts counter, trade in service and finance department, so our customers can buy, sell, finance and service in the one place, and we support the community that supports us through sponsorship of local sporting clubs and our partnership with OC Connections and its car wash program. We are now seeking an experienced Finance Broker to take ownership of the finance and insurance side of our customers' purchases. This role will suit someone who enjoys a busy dealership environment and takes care to place customers into funding they can comfortably manage.
Finance Broker | Melbourne's Cheapest Cars | Oakleigh, VIC
Key Responsibilities
• Look after finance enquiries as they come in from the Oakleigh yard, our online application form and our phone lines, and establish exactly what each buyer needs by way of funding and protection, taking into account the vehicle chosen, how long they intend to keep it and whether it is for private or business use.
• Assess each customer's financial position in full before anything is lodged, covering income, employment, living costs, existing commitments, credit conduct, deposit and any equity in a trade in, so the repayment they commit to is one they can comfortably meet.
• Set out the alternatives in plain language and build a funding approach that fits the customer, covering loan term, repayment frequency, deposit and trade in contribution, balloon or residual amounts, and chattel mortgage or commercial facilities for ABN holders buying our ex fleet utes, vans and work vehicles.
• Recommend the loan, or the combination of facilities, that produces the best overall result, such as pairing the core vehicle loan with a secondary facility for on road costs, accessories or protection cover, or splitting the funding across lenders where the circumstances warrant it.
• Stay across every product on our lender and insurer panel and weigh each one against the customer in front of you, comparing rates, fees, terms, early payout conditions, approval criteria and settlement turnaround before making any recommendation.
• Present our insurance and protection options clearly, including comprehensive cover, loan protection, guaranteed asset protection, extended warranty and tyre and rim cover, so customers understand what is covered, what is excluded and what each option adds to their repayment.
• Prepare and lodge applications with complete supporting documentation, verify identity, income and serviceability, respond to lender queries and satisfy approval conditions so agreed delivery dates are met.
• Work alongside the sales team to match approved finance limits to suitable stock, and see each deal through settlement with our business office, including PPSR checks, payout of any encumbrance on a trade in, registration transfer and confirmation of cleared funds before the vehicle leaves the yard.
• Support buyers whose circumstances are less straightforward, including self employed customers, casual and contract workers, recent arrivals to Australia and first time borrowers, negotiate with lender business development managers on their behalf, and assist customers refinancing or paying out an existing loan on a trade in.
• Conduct every deal in line with responsible lending, NCCP, anti money laundering, privacy and Australian Consumer Law obligations and the standards expected of a VACC member dealership, keep customer and compliance records accurate in our dealership systems, maintain relationships with our lenders and insurers, and report finance performance to management.
Qualifications and Experience
• At least 1 year of relevant experience in finance broking, dealership business management, or consumer or commercial lending. Automotive finance experience will be well regarded.
• An AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in finance, banking, commerce, business or a related field.
Hours: 38 hours per week - Full-time
Salary: $140,000 to $145,000 plus superannuation per annum
Personal Attributes
• Genuinely interested in people, and willing to listen properly before recommending anything.
• Calm and organised on a busy showroom floor, with several deals running at once.
• Careful with detail, particularly around documentation and compliance.
• Self motivated and commercially aware, comfortable working to targets without pushing customers.
• Discreet with confidential financial information and professional in presentation.
