With more than 25 years of industry experience, Military Services Australia provides comprehensive logistical and supply solutions across maritime and defence operations. Its services include the sourcing, coordination and distribution of provisions, technical stores, hardware, equipment and other operational supplies, together with transport and logistical support for complex and time-sensitive requirements.
Due to continued business growth and increasing operational requirements, our client is seeking an experienced Supply and Distribution Manager to join its team in Murarrie, Queensland.
About the Role
The Supply and Distribution Manager will be responsible for planning, organising, directing, controlling and coordinating the company's supply, storage and distribution operations.
This is a management-level position with responsibility for ensuring that goods and supplies are efficiently sourced, stored, controlled and distributed in accordance with customer requirements, operational priorities and agreed delivery timeframes.
The successful candidate will oversee inventory and distribution strategies, supplier and logistics arrangements, stock-control systems, transportation planning and the performance of employees involved in supply and distribution activities.
Key Responsibilities
The Supply and Distribution Manager will be responsible for:
- Determining, implementing and monitoring purchasing, storage and distribution strategies, policies and operational plans to support maritime, - defence and logistics operations.
- Developing and implementing inventory and supply plans to maintain appropriate stock levels while controlling procurement, storage and distribution costs.
- Negotiating and managing arrangements with suppliers, freight providers and logistics contractors regarding price, quality, availability, transportation and delivery requirements.
- Monitoring and reviewing storage, inventory and stock-control systems to ensure sufficient supplies are available to meet operational and customer requirements.
- Overseeing systems used to record and track the movement of provisions, technical stores, equipment, hardware and other goods and ensuring appropriate re-ordering and replenishment schedules are maintained.
- Planning and coordinating the receipt, storage and distribution of goods across local, interstate and international supply chains.
- Liaising with clients, suppliers, internal personnel and transport providers regarding supply requirements, delivery priorities, outward goods and associated transportation arrangements.
- Coordinating the efficient and timely distribution of supplies to ports, vessels, operational facilities and other required locations.
- Overseeing and maintaining accurate records of purchasing, receiving, storage, inventory and distribution transactions.
- Monitoring supplier, freight and distribution performance to ensure agreed quality standards, delivery schedules and cost requirements are achieved.
- Analysing supply and distribution operations and implementing improvements to inventory management, purchasing, storage and distribution processes.
- Managing supply disruptions, urgent requirements and changing operational priorities to maintain continuity of supply and minimise delays.
- Directing and coordinating employees involved in supply, inventory, storage and distribution activities and monitoring their performance.
- Establishing operational priorities and allocating resources to ensure supply and distribution activities are completed efficiently and within required timeframes.
- Ensuring that goods and services are supplied in accordance with customer requirements, contractual obligations, company procedures and applicable quality and safety standards.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this position, you will ideally have:
- A relevant qualification in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, Operations Management or a related discipline, and/or substantial relevant industry experience.
- Demonstrated experience in supply and distribution management, logistics, inventory management or a closely related field.
- Strong knowledge of purchasing, storage, stock control, inventory management and distribution processes.
- Experience managing supplier, freight and logistics-provider relationships.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating complex supply and distribution requirements.
- Strong commercial and negotiation skills.
- Strong analytical, planning and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience managing inventory and supply-chain systems.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and respond effectively to urgent operational requirements.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Experience supervising, coordinating and monitoring the performance of employees.
- Experience within maritime logistics, defence supply, ship provisioning, international logistics or a similarly complex supply environment will be highly regarded.
